Generally agree about his over use and over reliance on seamers sometimes but in hindsight would not have mattered.Ashwin not looking at his best.

More than captaincy its the age old problem of not being able to take 20 wickets when no or little help from the pitch. 

N.B:Match isn't over yet though.

Close to 60 overs by Ashwin in the game and just 1 wicket. Has been totally ineffective.

Probably the difference between winning a hard fought series and whitewash is combined form of Ashwin and Kohli

Ashwin looked good when he started today.

 

He looks good with new ball.

 

Still not the same Ashwin (there were some poor overs in between too) but gotta say a huge blunder to not start with Ash and Jaddu with the 8 over new ball.

 

With the old ball, even Jaddu couldn't do much. Such is the pitch and ball combo.

 

Ashwin's form is really hurting India.

Ishant was at least Bowling well, created chances, got one, one was dropped of him. Don't just go by stats. Ashwin barely troubled any batsman.

There was no dropped catch of Ishant .

If i am totally honest,  barring a few overs,  I felt Ashwin bowled well today. 

 

There was drift,  he created chances and looked almost as good as Jaddu with the old ball. 

 

The fact that he didnt have any rough to play with,  didnt get a crack with newer ball and his past crimes in this series goes against him. 

 

Kohli should have bowled them in tandem more.

I blame the fans partly here , its clear that he likes the idea of being seen as a aggressive captain and feels that bowling pace bowlers makes him look aggressive . 

There are two issues with this . The first one is that , you cannot be attacking all the time and he needs to realise there are times he needs to go defensive to win matches .  

Secondly , bowling pace bowlers does not make you aggressive . His job is not to make his fast bowlers look good , but rather to win matches and it does not matter if Umesh or Ashwin takes wickets . 

 

There is a pretty staright forward formula to win matches for India at home . Its spin bowling . The fast bowlers will and should always play the supporting role .

I think Bhajji should be called for 4th test and Ashwin can judge the Roadies show.
