Washington Sundar failed the fitness test for T20 Series

Another game-changer in shorter formats, Yuvraj Singh was tripped by Yo-Yo. Promising off-spinning all-rounder M.S. Washington Sundar was all but selected in the Indian team for the three-match Twenty20 series against Australia before falling to Yo- Yo. He scored 15.7 in the test conducted at NCA; he is still not 18 and could find his way back soon.

Thought this was interesting. Good to see another young talent being considered by the Indian team and he is very, very promising but also great to see that they're not taking any exceptions over fitness.

Nehra passing it is a surprise.

How can a  youngster who has done so well in a recent match fail a fitness test? What exactly is this yo yo test and how does it test the fitness required from a cricketer ?

Cricketers don't require the same kind of fitness that other sportsperson do.

Spinners fo not require the same kind of fitness that pacers do.

Same goes for bowlers and batsmen.

Does yo yo test cater to the specific fitness required for the specific job?

1. Cricketers have lower level to pass the test. Other sports have higher level.

2. Not sure whether it caters specific requirement or not, but failing these tests isn't good at all. Any professional player should be able to do it. It's not the toughest test in world. You would actually be surprised if they see with your eyes players failing these tests.

all this seems so vague ,there is no clarity whatsoever.any one will question the likes of nehra and jadhav passing these tests but not sundar or raina

I can understand nehra passing it easily. This tests the aerobic strength and pace bowlers run up and all makes it easier for them.

This is definitely one netrics that BCCI should insist on.

There has to a be a strict fitness standard without compromise. If you are fitter than the other team you can win easily. This test is a step in the right direction.
