Wonderful bowler. Looks threatening all the time even though his speed is not that high.

He is immaculate with his lengths.  Hitting such immaculate length is being as gifted at bowling 150KPH.  He hits such lengths, not because he is slow.  Sometimes people think he is slow so he is so accurate.  A slow bowler does not automatically become an accurate bowler.

132kph is by no means ‘slow’..even more deadly with movement off the pitch.

wtf were you guys doing with Mohammad amir all this while? this guy should have played 75 test matches by now...

bhai, he couldn't have played 75 tests because he did not come through the system. Reading his cricinfo bio, he used to be a blacksmith's apprentice in a village somewhere, then became a peon for a law firm in a city, where he played his cricket to get noticed. He wouldn't have been on anyone's radar till 3-4 years ago, max.

A fast-medium bowler with excellent control of line and length, with the ability to move the ball both ways.

Ironic that he is the kind of bowlers Indians idolized through the 90s and Pakistanis made fun of, while today Pakistanis are singing songs of this guy and Indians are all about 'what speed did XYZ bowl at IPL?!'

Errrrr no. Indian bowlers of 90’s were nothing like Abbas. Bowlers like this are unique.

Its about the attributes. I don't need to point out that every damn Pakistani post re: bowlers from even 10 years ago was ' he is a medium pacer, indians need to eat meat to make fast bowlers, blahblahblah'.

The point is, Pakistanis spent decades idolizing pace, while Indians spent decades idolizing bowlers like Abbas and now the views are opposite.

Abbas still  has too much  left to prove  , I feel. He till now has only played in ENG, in UAE , against WI(lower ranked)  & a border line minnow AUS. His real test would be in AUS,NZL  & SAF where it not swings that much and genuine fastness comes into play. And playing against  relatively stronger Indian batting too is a criteria for  being great.  So reserving  opinions as of now.

Bhuvi should aim to replicate him.The difference between Bhuvi and this guy is the length.Abbas being taller certainly helps.

Bhuvi will do well in tests. The people here keep confusing the test format with odi ones and keep predicting bhuvi will fail. The so call experts on fast bowling here cannot differentiate between tests and odis. Bhuvi keeps being played in the wrong format

You dont need to be genuinely fast to succeed in RSA or NZ. Just ask Philander, Pollock, Boult, Southee, etc. Plenty of pitches there that are ideal for seam & swing bowlers who can hit a spot consistently.

All of those bowlers are successful outside RSA and NZ too.

but BK is not as consistent as say Philander or Pollock.

He is not saying India had them. He is probably alluding to the glen McGrath experiment that Indian seniors like SRT, dravid, Saurav had conducted on our then young bowlers like munaf etc.. munaf could neither control length nor could produce seam movement on flat tracks.

Munaf was such a talent. Before Umesh came onto the scene I thought Munaf was destined to greatness but it was so sad how he lost focus.

But he was an accurate bowler though and did get seam movement every now and then even on flat tracks in Windies IIRC.

As for this Abbas, I’m still not convinced about his bowling. He seems to be having beginner’s luck ala Ajantha Mendis(I know spinner but still). No matter how accurate you are, dibbly-dobbly bowlers have never dominated over long periods of time. Lack of bounce is a big minus point.

We will have to see him after 5 years how great he is, and that too if he exists at that time and hasn’t fallen into the typical Pakistani hole of substance abuse, women abuse, cheating, fixing etc.

When Munaf debuted, ( perhaps in 2006 )  he was a hostile quick bowler.  Hit 145 k regularly even in test matches and got steep bounce.  Had a good yorker and bouncer and could reverse the ball. .

He bowled quick for a couple of years ... but lost pace and intensity after that.   He had hidden 7 years of his age and was lazy.  Neither factor helped.

But he always remained an accurate bowler.

I have seen some of his wickets...looks like a beautiful bowler. Navdeep Saini might be our poor man's version of this guy. But should get a chance once to prove himself.

awesome wicket to wicket bowler, in the last test he was just targetting the lbw and did that  without fail.Lets see what he does in SA, where he is supposed to be very successful now
