This is my list in order of merit of the most entertaining opening batsmen of all time .Not in terms of class but just value as entertainers .Includes ODI's.

1.Victor Trumper-Took batting art to regions of divinity surpassing even Bradman in pure prowess.

2.Barry Richards-Epitome of batting perfection  like a boxer ,technician and surgeon moulded into one.

3.Sannath Jayasuriya -Gave a new dimension to opening  by going hammer and tongs from the word go.Resembled an acrobat performing tricks.

4.Virendra Sehwag -Most inventive batsmen of the modern era playing strokes that were surreal.Domination in region sof the sublime.

5=.Adam Gilchrist/Chris Gayle -The ultimate men  to demoralize an opposing attack or intimidate opposition.Made the impact of lighting a stadium on fire out in the middle.

7.Rohit Sharma-A Sehwag,Gayle or Gilchrist of the modern generation with more grace or composure

8.Sachin Tendulkar-The ultimate master blending technical skill with agression and innovation like only Barry Richards could.Ranked low because he did not open in test matches.

9.Gordon Greenidge-Close to a black Barry Richards who on his day could join the Gods of Olympus.

10.Saed Anwar-Would dominate bowling majestically but always posessing artistic touch.

11.Krishnamachari Shrikanth-On his day could literally go blistering barnacles taking domination to mythical proportions.

12.Desmond Haynes-Lyrical batting resembling the sound of a flute.Still could pulverize any attack.More aesthetic than partner Greenidge

13.Matthew Hayden- Destructive power at its ultimate zenith resembling the power of a motorboat.Relished any conditions.

14.Saurav Ganguly-The prince of Kolkata with a golden touch. Aesthicism in batting at it's supreme height  reminding one of David Gower.

15.Graham Gooch-On his day revealed mastery particularly against great pace few ever did.Glorious driver.

16.Majid Khan-Few batsmen ever posessed more natural talent than Majid and no opening batsmen hooked a cricket ball as majestically. On his day would explore regions in batting few ever could.

You are mixing test with odi  and opening , Each are played with a different mind set and thus a different type of entertainment .

You can not judge Victor Trumper as by your posts I can guess your age approx and you never saw him , you can read he was a good bat but you can't possibly say he is No1 most entertaining opening bat !!!

Entertainment is important so one with the quick scoring rate. I will go with Greenidge and Sehwag.

The best opening batsman who was the most innovative was Graham Gooch. He started the backlift of the bat to reduce the reaction time. Baseball like stance but very practical and innovative in a rigid game like cricket.
