Hosting President Xi in Mahabalipuram, PM Modi once again opens doors of 'Incredible India' to foreign leaders

This is an underappreciated trait in BJP, they don't keep the big things concentrated in and around Delhi....so unlike Congress. Vajpayee govt in 2003 held the Afro-Asian Games in Hyderabad, a break away from tradition. India isn't just New Delhi !!!! Not just this his outreach to North East these last 6 years, something never done before by any other Indian PM.

Quote

New Delhi: The second informal meeting between PM Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping in Tamil Nadu’s Mahabalipuram will see both the leaders visit the UNESCO World Heritage site in the southern state.

This is not the first time that PM Modi is hosting a foreign leader outside the locations like Delhi and Agra, which earlier used to be a norm. Opening the doors of ‘Incredible India’ to the world, in the last five years, dignitaries from across the world have had a first-hand experience of Indian hospitality in different parts of the country which has been great for the promotion of Indian culture.

Xi, who will arrive in India on Friday, will be visiting places like Arjuna’s Penance, Panch Rathas and Shore Temple in Mahabalipuram. He is scheduled to attend a cultural programme at the Shore Temple at 6 in the evening, followed by a dinner hosted by PM Modi.

Foreign dignitaries have visited various Indian states across the country which has given the states an opportunity to highlight their traditions to the world.

Earlier, PM Modi hosted Japanese President Shinzo Abe and the First Lady in Ahmedabad where they visited the Sabarmati Ashram and Sidi Sayyed Mosque. During the last visit of the Chinese President Xi, he was welcomed in Ahmedabad, and he visited the Sabarmati riverfront.

French President Emmanuel Macron visited Varanasi and Mirzapur in Uttar Pradesh with PM Modi, German Chancellor Angela Merkel was hosted in Bengaluru’s Bosch Research Centre. Israeli PM Netanyahu, who was on a visit to India, was also hosted in Ahmedabad.

Apart from the bolded bits, Modi hosted:

French Prez Hollande in Chandigarh

South Korean First Lady in Ayodhya

Canadian PM in Amritsar and Mumbai

German Prez in Chennai, Sarnath, Varanasi

Mauritius PM in Patna

etc

Waise Mahabalipuram is a spectacular venue, must visit heritage site.

Actually, none in this case. I correct myself, iI don't think it was appeasement as he has been seen in different attires. It would have confused the paxtanis who were trending goBackModi.

opposition has a role in democracy. learn to accept it.

Yes, but you learn to accept that it should be constructive. Not opposing everything the goverent does, then it would be anti-establishment, and anarchist.

The trail lead to isi. Some left wing lapped it up as usual.  Don't use this to stirr Tamil hate like you usually do.

again how is this relevant ?  there are scores of very normal everyday people in TN that appreciate Modi's messaging , your post is irrelevant what makes Stalin representative of all TN people ? before his dad dies he was nothing, what ever he does is on him and his supporters. if he is in the opposition then so be it he has a right to be there and right to his opinion no one can stifle it.

dude you need to grow out of your petty hatred.

I am not your typical left wing chap- in fact I find BJP's economic policies socialist leaning. That out of the way, having lived abroad and in India, while Modi is inviting all these foreign premieres to unconventional locations, he has to ensure the spread of economy to these uncharted territories. In India, what I see is that the system is not meritocratic at all-  I was expecting Modi government to improve it massively. Things have improved somewhat but it is still indistinguishable from what was the case earlier.

Modi and Xi meeting in Mahabalipuram is great for the city and its renovation. But I have to ask why didn't it get renovated earlier. Anyway its not in bad shape I'm assuming. I went there decades ago and was in decent shape. If both of them were meeting in Mahabalipuram then why waste time in Chennai. Xi's security felt it was safer traveling to Mahabs through road from Chennai rather than fly there from Chennai airport. Normally air should be safer than road. South Chennai was blocked for this visit especially the IT parks in OMR. I live in South Chennai and had to take diverted routes to go anywhere for two days

Decent shape but cleanliness an issue like in most tourist hubs in India (went there a couple of months back), hopefully that is now taken more seriously. More than anything, this will now put the town in world map, more tourism opportunities. Many Chinese tourists might feel like adding this in their itinerary thanks to recent publicity, after all it has ancient links with China.  Chinese tourists a potential gold mine for 'Incredible India' campaign, loaded with :money:and a huge middle class population, they also love to travel.

Well it was the 'Chennai Summit', Mahabalipuram was a half day event. Inconveniences are expected during such visits, Xi is a big cat like POTUS, Putin...apparently it is PRC policy to avoid chopper rides for their head LINK

Then there is the problem of accommodation and airport, Chennai was inevitable. Maybe our security personnel will learn, adapt and come up with new ways to make such experiences smoother for common folk. At least now that stretch must be cleaner, more organized and roads wider with clearing of encroachments.

Last year 2.4 lakh Chinese tourists visited India, 14 lakh Indians visited China !!!!

144 million international tourists from China last year, highest in the world....

Chinese tourists are the worst pieces of crap in the world. Atleast Indian tourists when they are outside India  tend to be timid and try not to break any rules but these Chinese bozos do the typical crap like jumping ahead or cutting through queue, laughing and giggling loudly, just be overall obnoxious.

I have seen this in atleast 3-4 tourist spots

in the USA

Chomsky has some really interesting perspective on this.

As a nation grows in stature in its standing in world affairs, its tourists/business people tend to be more assertive when travelling.

The image that the average American tourist had from the 50s-90s is more or less like what Chinese tourists have world over (particularly is South East Asia).  But the Chinese tourists/businessmen from the 80s and 90s (much fewer) like the American tourists from the early 20th century were a better behaved lot.

if this theory holds any weight, Indian tourists in a decade or two would start with the boorish behaviour that we generally reserve for our travel in India.

I think Indians in general behave as per the surroundings based on my observation.

Sorry if this sounds crude but in a bathroom stall at a local movie theatre in India the behavior would differ when the same person goes to a well maintained bathroom in a multiplex or a 5 star hotel. All of a sudden you see a big queue near the automatic soap dispenser or the hand dryer.

Another example is when I came to the USA, I had some work in the Indian embassy in Chicago I took the public transport to get there and some of the Indians who probably were headed to the same destination, followed the queue system and other basic social etiquette to a tee all the way up until the point they entered the embassy elevator. Once inside it was winner takes all,the same old zigzag, cutting through queues, pushing and jumping ahead of even women and senior citizens.

I think we are socially aware in the right circumstances. The Chinese on the other hand are a different breed.

Even at work the average Indian Fob will hold the door or the elevator but the Chinese especially the FOBS who act like entities aholes
