Australia choking the runs, India shows little intent to score runs

Just look at the atrocious run rate of India in  the last two tests. The slow run rate allowed Australia to escape in the last test. This test also they have choked the runs and India has only scored 140 runs in 52 overs. This will again allow time to pass and let Australia dictate the terms.

Remember if the series is drawn Aus retain the Border Gavaskar trophy.

The difference is Australia batted nearly 140 overs in first innings and scored 450.

Here just 300.So plenty more more time left.If we bat the same pace as in last test and score around 600, then Aussies need to bat around 5 sessions atleast to save the test which is far different than the 3 sessions they had to face on last test in Pune.

So much different scenarios and situations.

Agreed. Other than Kohli and Rahul, there is no player who can score runs at a decent strike rate. How hard is it to rotate strike.

Well, there is Nair in this XI, but not a regular yet.

We are fine if we bat next 4 sessions. No need to be in a hurry and lose wickets. We have to bat 4th, so, we need to make sure that we score big in the first innings. We are also playing one batsman less, so, we cannot afford a collapse and Saha-Pujara are not going to bail us out every time. Every batsman need to contribute. bat as long as possible score 600 or more and give last 5 sessions to Australia.

Can't compare last game, and Aus had amazing partnership between Marsh and Handscombe to save them last Test

more time this time and Kuldep factor, so priority is get to 300 at loss of minimum 4 wkts, then build, ideally 200 plus

happy with current run rate, I m sure if India score 500plus the RR will be 3+

But here's the mistake you are making. Smith is in a different class of batsmen. Not everyone can bat like him or even Kohli. They are clutch players who have ability to score runs even against good bowling and even in testing conditions and can take the game away from the opposition quickly. Smith's knock yesterday made the conditions look comfortable and allowed them to get 300. If everyone else tried to bat like him, they will fail.

Every batsman will play according to his own strengths and weaknesses. It doesnt matter how they bat as long as they score because the scorecard is what matters at the end of the day.

Its a bit similar to Sachin and Dravid. Sachin was a once in a lifetime, tremendously gifted batsman. Dravid was talented in his own right but he was not dominating. His strengths were technique and temperament to keep battling. He ended up with an average above 50 and scored 10,000+ runs. He was as much of a match winner as Sachin in tests but he had his own way of doing things and you have to acknowledge that everyone is different and respect that.

This is what happens when you dont score runs. couple wickets and you are in trouble. 3 wickets lost for 59 runs.

What will a few more runs do in the context of the game ? Its not like they will score 200 runs in one session. Important thing is to bat time and bat big. Tire out the bowlers and have big partnerships. Do you know anything about test cricket at all ?

If score was 220 and not 160 we would be in far better state.

Tire out the bowlers on a placid pitch?Huh? really?

You play out maidens when the ball is 40 overs old?Thats the best time to score runs.

Big Partnerships? On basis of number of balls?Score runs for ffs.

I know more about Test Cricket then you can imagine.Test cricket doesnt mean tuk tuk tuk and let the opposition dry up runs.

LOL. When u bat positively u get rid of the closing fielders pretty quickly which greatly reduces the chance of getting out, games move forward and even if u lose wicket it puts less pressure on the next batters because they get confident from the fact that their team have already put up a decent total on the board  and they r in a decent position.

90 runs were scored in post lunch session. How more positive do you want them to be ? Sometimes, there will be passages of play where runs wont be scored either because of conditions or because of bowlers. Just trying to increase run rate just for the sake of it is just asking for trouble. Runs will come if you are patient enough to work hard for it.

Scoring very slowly also allows the bowlers to bowl a good line and length.  There is no pressure created on them.

Even if there is plenty of time left in a test match, all  loose deliveries should be put away.

What if the opposition bowls to their fields and gives very few loose balls?   How about crediting the Aussies for a well executed bowling effort?
