Should Pandya be tried as an opener?

Between Rahane's continuous struggles in LOI Cricket and the slow starts by Dhawan/Rohit, should we try Pandya as an opener? 

This would be my X1 against Pak,

Yuvi/Karthik

Yadav

Shami

Bhuvi and

Bumrah.

A big NO. If you want a hard hitting opener, get Pant but let Pandya bat lower down the order.

Rohit looks in terrible form and that is very tempting and it will allow them to play 5 bowlers and Pandya.I would not mind to trying against Pakistan as Rohit is a big suspect against Amir's inswing.

Get Kaarthick to Open instead of Rohit.

You need such players all around your line up and not just one spot. But opening is vital and teams need a good quick start these days to score big.

Hell No....as I said first time ever he looked assured otherwise everytime I have seen him (no fault of his though) came in a situation where he ahd to throw his bat around,great striker of the ball...don't think he will last against the new ball

Ashwin can suit out, he is too one-dimensional in Odis. Not suited. Average bar a few overs. He can play only if pitch supports spin and requires two spinners, then one pacer will sit out.

Too long a tail. Karthik has to play in place of one of Shami or Umesh.

Its too late for Pant now. The bowling will become weak if Pandya is one of 5 bowlers.

A big difference. Irfan was a bowling all rounder while Pandya is a better batsman.

That would weaken our bowling and to be frank it will strengthen our batting only on paper, but practically speaking it wont make much of a diff. Too many passengers in team. If most of top and middle order fails, I don't see how the 7th or 8th batsmen will be able to save the innings. Maybe be prolong it.

Why is there a tendency in Indian cricket to promote someone who can bat to opener slot ? Similar thing happened to both Pathans. Just let him be who he is, otherwise you will ruin even his natural ability. If he can deliver as a lower order hitter, that's valuable in itself. If you want an opener who can bat aggressively, find someone who can do something like that in List A, Ranji or even in IPL and pick him in ODI side.
