India beaten from SL and Scotland beat SL in warm up games so I suppose Scotland is best :))

Don't get too excited now boy-o.  India didn't lose today due to personnel issues.  It lost due to misguided strategy of conservative batting.

India's 'A' team is strong enough to make World Cup semi-final along with India.  Put that in your tattie and smoke it.

Statements like these look very stupid when things don't go our way.

Relax. We still need to beat South Africa to qualify for the semis and they might just come out firing on all cylinders after their loss to Pakistan.

Indian A side is actually strong. I guess this is how it would look like -

Samson

Iyer

Nair

Pandey

Raina (c)

Pant (k)

Axar/Chahal

Kuldeep

Ashwin

Shami

Siraj/Aniket

This team can beat Pakistan, Lanka, and Bangladesh quite easily.

Dude, Keep your 'advice' where the sun don't shine.  Go check Zen's thread on the group qualifying scenario and read what I've posted about the likely outcome of the 2 'quarterfinals'.

That being said, I stand by what I said - An Indian XI composed of players who are not in the current squad, has a good chance of finishing in the top 4 in a World Cup.

I'll keep my advice where I damn well please. You'd do pretty well to take it yourself, else you might end up with egg on your face.

An Indian XI composed of players outside this squad (you probably have the likes of Samson, Pant, Iyer, maybe a few experienced players like Raina and god knows what bowlers in mind considering these are the best we've got) is going to need 3-4 years of experience before they can become a half-decent side and the players can become confident enough to win matches at the international stage on their own. It's not that smooth a sailing in international cricket. At this point of time, no, our second XI doesn't have a "good chance" of getting a semifinal spot in a World Cup with mostly inexperienced batting and below average bowling. That is ridiculous. This team could easily have an off day and crash out at the quarterfinal stage itself.

Of course it can.  Odds right now at India losing to SA are about 60-40, given the conditions, team make-up, and team strategy.   I'm under no illusions about that.  But you honestly think a second India team consisting of rejected veterans and upcoming rookies wouldn't beat the likes of Bang, WI, SL and Pak, NZ?  That would put them at #5, within striking distance of #4.    Uthappa, Raina, Harbhajan, etc could provide the experience, while Samson, Iyer, Pant, Basil Thampi etc would provide the youth.

Anyway its an academic hypothetical moot discussion.   And I'm not going to back off from my point, just because we lost a one-off game to SL where we underachieved.

Exactly.  Its not arrogance to say this.  Given the popularity of cricket in our country and our population, plus the strength of our domestic structure and IPL, its only a surprise that its taken this long for such a situation to develop.

Can they beat them? Yes. Will they do it more often than not? There's no saying it. Those veterans are rejects for a reason, they're usually pretty average on the international circuit. And like Delhi Dynamos showed, putting too much faith on youngsters can fail spectacularly. We don't even have 100% success rates with our second XIs against the likes of Zimbabwe or Bangladesh. No idea where you're getting this false sense of confidence from.

You seriously believe that the likes of Raina, Uthappa, Harbhajan, Samson, etc  are not better than the likes of Hafeez, Tharanga, Neil Broom?  Please think about this objectively.  Heck, even Frogacumen's homeboy Rayudu is daylights better than the Azhar Alis and Chandimals.  Any day.  I know it sounds arrogant.  But its not.  Like I said earlier, its a hypothetical discussion anyway.

Why is Samson even considered a good one day player? His List A stats are awful. Average of 28.95 and a strike rate of 78.92. Uthappa is in the same mould in that he tends to bat selfishly at the top in international cricket. Raina is fine but not in the best of form and Bhajji can do no better than restrict runs at this point. Seriously, these players would make for a pathetic one day team, especially considering the bowling would get thrashed. All these young players will need years of international experience before we can count on them. The likes of Samson, Pant and Iyer are in no way reliable.

OK, try to read this nice and slow.  I'm not saying they are good enough for selection for Team India.  I'm saying they are better than the likes of Hafeez, Azhar Ali, Neil Broom, Chandimal, Tharanga, Soumya Sarkar, etc    Ah, forget it. Seems like you are hell bent on missing my point.
