Can India field a second ODI side and qualify for CT?

Not out of arrogance. But I think we can produce a second team that is ranked atleast 7th or 8th in the world. They could make it to CT. It is a reflection of ever widening gap between top teams and bottom tier teams. Cricket will become boring if more teams start losing competitiveness. Pakistan team looked like a high school team other day.

To qualify for CT you need to be in top 8. I think our second team can get to 6  or  easily. This is just a hypothetical scenario to illustrate how world cricket gives an imbalanced view.

I think we can look at Kashmir Team would be fun, there will be bromance with Pakistani team but you can diengage Kashmiri fans of pak team to support kashmiri team instead. But they will suck but could be like Afghanistan may be.

austrayan batting is a joke outside of smith and warner. forget their second xi, their first xi has players like travis head, chris lynn, maxwell. these scrubs wouldn't get into an indian second string side.

 

england have a great batting lineup, but i'm not sure if they have any strength in depth outside that first xi. i can't think of any talented young up-and-coming guys.

 

meanwhile, india can easily field a 2nd string side with the following players:

 

rishabh pant

ajinkya rahane

karun nair

shreyas iyer

manish pandey

sanju samson+

vijay shankar

kuldeep yadav

yuzi chahal/amit mishra

mohammad shami

dhawal kulkarni/mohammed siraj

 

that team is better than most other countries' first xi. i mean, they would beat pakistan/sri lanka/bangladesh and have more than a decent chance against the others.

No. Our 2nd team will be weaker than Zimbabwe, they will be 11th or 12th best. Only ATG WI and ATG Aus could have fielded competent 2nd teams, and remember what an ordinary Indian side did to Kallicharan's WI(basically 2nd string team) when their best players left for Packer series.
