Yuvis lack of confidence is down to his age. he knows that he is blocking a place. We need a solid batsman there, Pant Pandey Aiyar, Samson list is long. Problem is instead of 5 specialist batsmen, We have just 3. Remaining two are Yuvi and Jadhav. If top 3 has the confidence in the remaining 2, Story wont be that bad.

Since Kohli is playing these 2, I am sure somewhere he is at fault.  Instead of Yuvi, He should be pepping up and banking Jadhav. jadhav is not being used at all.

Kohli also had abysmal captaincy yesterday. Jadhav needs to bat higher and should come before Dhoni.

I don't know how many dot balls SL played, but they were chasing a sub par total. The bar had aready been set low by India. We batted first and gave them the luxury of being afford to place dot balls while chasing a non-intimidating total.

A better question would be, "how many dot balls would SL have played had they batted first on this track?" Or, an even better question is, "had SL had India's batting riches but not India's approach, how many dot balls would SL have played had they batted first on thie wicket?"

As per stats they played 122 dot balls.

  Bowling O M R W Econ 0s 4s 6s
  B Kumar 10 0 54 1 5.40 30 6 0 (1w)
  UT Yadav 9.4 0 67 0 6.93 28 7 2 (1w)
  JJ Bumrah 10 0 52 0 5.20 26 3 1 (1nb)
  HH Pandya 7 1 51 0 7.28 17 6 1 (1w)
  RA Jadeja 6 0 52 0 8.66 12 7 1 (1w)
  KM Jadhav 3 0 18 0 6.00 4 1 0 (1w)
  V Kohli 3 0 17 0 5.66 5 1 0

And before Yuvi too. Give Jadahav some time in middle. Its him who can make difference. Right now he is being sent down the order so that he gets out cheaply throwing the wicket while Yuvi and MSD are given more batting time.

Bottom line is , I get the feeling that Kohli wants  Yuvi to look better than Jadhav so then he can justify his selection. Now Yuvi and Kohli fans are free to start attacking me.

I have even said this we are having too many dot balls against Pakistan too..

People are happy with 40/0 at 10 overs. Because we can accelerate in the end if we have wicket in our hand so we end up playing more dot balls upto 35th over.

Initial 10 overs with two fielders outside, You're supposed to attack and take much run as possible - Simple rule.

Last 10 overs, You got 5 fielders outside and we scored 100+ in that but in other thread people are thinking it is way too low

Most teams in this tournament have followed similar approach at the start though. Yesterday, we had wickets in hand but batted very conservatively in the middle overs against some mediocre bowling. Should have scored 8-9 RPO against the 5th bowling option.

The diff of 20 dot balls

Few misfields and it all makes a huge diff in the end

This reinforces following views:

1) 350+ score would have been match winning. SL had the luxury to play 120 dot balls and yet win without breaking a sweat. :wall:

2)Bowlers weren't very poor. On such pitch with gettable total where SL played calculated cricket brilliant, how can one get wicket. We don't have express pace bowler.

BK touched 90 mph,. Yadav and Bumrah touched 92 mph, so, it was not just about pace  but more variation of pace and strategy. they could have tried a few short ones from the bigger side of the boundary. Instead, we kept bowling up and got driven.

Meant Starc like express pace bowler who can bowl 155+ Yorkers and bouncers and take pitch out of equation.

No matter how many 100 runs partnerships Dhawan-Rohit give, they literally waste the powerplay everytime. It was the sole reason why India had not won even a single ODI against SA and NZ in our 2013 outing.

Even Starc barely bowls 155KPH.

He can easily bowl 150 for a short spell and this is required in such situations. I am aware that Starc does not bowl such speeds on average. And wanted to write 150+ instead of 155+ but Starc does not barely but easily bowls 155kph.

155Km is just 3 miles off 100mph mark of Akhtar. If Starc or any bowler can regularly bowl that 97mph, He will bowl one delivery atleast at 100mph per match

lol guys we knew this all the time. Our batting sucks balls, Dhoni has regressed. Happy to scrap a win on SA and move to semis.

It would be lol worthy if we dont qualify for semis..hehe I will be MIA for a few weeks from ICF then, lol :embarassed:

SL is back to strong team now after playing us, things will be interesting again.

Need to convert those dots into singles

It's fine being defensive first 15 overs, but aim should also be taking 1s and 2s of your shots, feel Rohit and Dhawan are content having a feel of the game situation for 10 to 15 overs

but then again it's one of hardest skills in cricket to continuously rotate strike

also fitness needs to be right up there
