The "jack of all trades" department right now is being served by Yuvi/ Jadeja and Jadhav , all of whom provide a better return and a more practical option. If Yuvi/ Jadhav / Jadeja fail in one then they can make it in another but Panday in that sense in CT atleast and for the sake of the argument I will focus only on Batting/bowling - is below all those three. Pandya can hit from ball 1 with but with only 7 ODI matches is only good for 10-20 odd runs . But if as a bowler he cannot provide abreakthrough and he has been quite poor against SA / SL / BD - his utility gets limited to only 2-3 overs of batting which he might have a chance to do. If India has to bowl 50 overs , rather have players who can focus on doing one job better then dabbling in everything - Yuvi/ Jadhav and Jadeja are doing that. If Pandya goes for Econ of 6 or more and picks no wickets in middle over - his role is redundant. ^ That post makes no sense at all .... esp. when Yuvi and Jadhav don't bowl regularly in every match and Jadeja lacks hitting capabilities of Pandya If you had followed the CT properly, you would have realized Pandya's contributions vs Pak, the run out of ABDV (iirc) vs SA and so on .... if he had got an opportunity to bat vs BD, we may have seen some bit hits from him too. Let's not forget catches dropped of his bowling Please take your agenda elsewhere as your post appears to be an unnecessary rant against a single player. That is one of the reasons, teams tend to play 1 or 2 utility players / all rounders in LOI Also if yuvraj singh fails, he has become a liability in the field and strangely he doesnt even bowl anymore zen 1
sandeep Posted June 17, 2017 Posted June 17, 2017 VK certainly trusts Pandya. He's on record as calling Pandya undroppable. He only expects 7 good overs from him. The Pandya naysayers need to start looking at at him as RainaNext. Don't view him as a full-time bowler.

He can only be a full time bowler after few yrs, as of now its not possible as he lacks 1st class exp. The more he bowls he ll get better....soon he ll play test and that will help his bowling n batting a lot to. We need to start looking at a 6th bowling option like shankar or krunal which can decrease the pressure on captain n panyda as well zen and Unstable Joe 2

sourab10forever Posted June 17, 2017 Posted June 17, 2017 Pandya's Batting + Fielding is very valuable. Have to let go Shami for that. Ankit_sharma03 1

Even his bowling, his eco is 5.82 which is ok these days Any bowler can go for runs ..........so if he goes for runs in a game its fine All these years we have cried for an all rounder like him..........the criticism about pandya is baffling by few people here as they have forgotten what we had Binny n dhawan for whom even bits n pieces wud be a high praise of words zen, express bowling, Unstable Joe and 1 other 4
sea of blue Posted June 17, 2017 Posted June 17, 2017 (edited) Pandya will leak runs but on the other hand he is decent with the bat. Shami will bowl better but he can't put up a score on the board. India bats deep so we don't really need Pandya's batting. But Shami is a wicket taker and we all know what happens to Pakistan when they lose wickets in such a pressure situation of the final match. My vote is for Shami. However, that is over a replacement for Ashwin. The wicket is going to be flat and hopeless for spinners. Edited June 17, 2017 by sea of blue
vvvslaxman Posted June 17, 2017 Posted June 17, 2017 Pandya is an unpredictable guy with ball. There are days where he can be very hard to score against with his hit the deck length. Other day against BD he should have taken Tamim but for noball.
ThePhenomenal1 Posted June 17, 2017 Posted June 17, 2017 Only change should be Shami for Ashwin. Ashwin is hit or miss in ODIs and we cant take the risk of him getting tonked and milked for runs. Best to go with shami who is bound to get a wicket or two. Fiery pace, bounce, swing and yorkers. Shami is the man.
Laaloo Posted June 17, 2017 Posted June 17, 2017 Yes they can be trusted and bring shami in for Ashwin. Pretty simple really. express bowling 1
maniac Posted June 17, 2017 Posted June 17, 2017 We are in a tricky position...we have so many players who are world class in their own right but we are not able to find that balance Pandya is a gun fielder and the much needed fire power in the end and his bowling is still a work in progress, Shami is leagues ahead of pandya the bowler but that will weaken our lower middle order, apples to apples against a side like Pakistan purely on skill level Ashwin is a slightly better bowler than Jadeja but Jadeja is one of the best fielders in the world and Also slightly a better batsman than Ashwin in this format apart from Kohli,Dhoni,Rohit and Bumrah no one in this Odi side look a 100% settled even now. Even Dhawan despite having a gun tournament looks like will be a few failures away before Rahul gets his shot. I don't mean it in a negative way because every player I have mentioned are world class players in this format but we seem to have a problem in finding the sure shot right balance and might be a problem even going forward. Bowling is still our weak link. Especially the 15 - 40. From the final perspective this is our weakest period of play while this is our opponent strongest period of play. I don't think we are weak in batting. Every player will have failures. Ashwin hasn't done in Odis over the past couple of months in Odis. But it is the experience of him that we will miss in middle overs.

Jadeja at least applies the choke and picks up a wicket or two. We need a pure wicket taker in the form of shami. Shami has enough experience as it is. Ashwin also drops catches and has the odd no-ball problem. He's not as good in ODIs as Shami. Ankit_sharma03 and Unstable Joe 2
