He has been a constant player for KKR.

And yet KKR didn't even try to bid for him.

A player who hasn't played for you will always seem more attractive an option than he really is. And that's why the likes of Manish Pandey and Yuvraj Singh will keep getting high bids until all the franchises collectively realise that they're not worth it anymore.

Pandey in IPL is similar to Dhoni in ODIs. He'll score big to pad up his stats but rarely is it the big impact innings that takes the game away from the opposition. That's fine for IPL when you have 8 teams and each team have their own deficiencies at each particular slot that they're looking to fill because all the better options have already gone to another team. But when you're picking for the national team, you have a much larger pool to choose from.

Hopefully they look beyond Pandey soon enough when it comes to picking the Indian squad too.

Why would they bid for him when they had RTM card that they can use to get him back. The reason they didn't go for him was because the bid was too high.

Don't we need players who can score hundreds at number 4 slot, and he has showed that ability in Aus. Big hitting is for lower-middle order batsmen, the area where we have been very poor for 3-4 years. He should be the next in order for #4 position before going on to try youngsters.

He scored 94 chasing 200 in the final vs Kings XI, few years ago now but still.

Hes a good bat, and deserves an extended run before another canditdate is tried

Since the 104* against AUS, Pandey's has been given chances but has failed to take them. People can argue not enough chances, and I would generally agree, but IMO he's had more chances than many new players get, and he's played poorly. It's disappointing.

Here'e Pandey's record after Aus century:

18 14 5 251 50* 27.88 292 85.95 0 1 2 24 2

I don't care about how he looks while batting, I care about the output. 14 innings with just one 50, and an avg. of 27.88 despite 5 not-outs. What's worse is that on more than one occasion he's got out playing a brainless shot. Which is the sort of thing that doesn't endear you to the team management or selectors. There's a reason he's at the back of the queue at the moment. The team still believe in him though that's why he's still in the mix.

Worst thing that happened to our middle order( for Pandey et al) was the re introduction of Yuvraj. Otherwise Manish, and someone else, could've gotten more opportunities.
