Dont think so. There were 5 passengers on that team and Pakistan was motivated. There were warning signs after SL game also andno adjustments were made.

Rahul should play like he did against Australia in India when Kohli captained. If he doesn’t its a bad decision. That said I hope whoever is picked does well and if Rahane continues to fail we might be in a situation where all three openers are playing. 

I hope Rahul smashes a ton if he gets to play in the warm up so that he is hard to ignore for the first test. 

 

I hope Vijay does well for us because he is extremely crucial for our middle order bats. When Vijay does well, it puts less pressure on our middle order. Also like harsha mentioned Vijay-Pujara together have averaged well together in recent history so the longer Vijay bats, the better are India’s chances.

What you are thinking of cases where worse players have replaced average/half decent players. But I can't recall any other case where a player after such performances is dropped.

However, that doesn’t mean that Rahul should be dropped. Rahul should be in the line up. Rahul also has been unlucky that he was injured at a time when he was doing well and for some reason wasn’t able to impress the management like Rahane did who even though was failing and got injured, got picked right back due to the reputation he developed from overseas tours before that where he was our best batsman.

 

I hope Rahul is given chances and develops that reputation so that he is picked ahead of many players.

It wasn't just one loss. It was probably the greatest sporting massacre. Had we lost narrowly by even say 20-30 runs no one would have gone bonkers. How you can lose by 180 runs in a final is beyond me !!! Generally the 2 in form teams make it till the final stage, so there shouldn't be such huge margins of defeat. Even WI and Aus, the 2 teams in GOAT contention never spanked the opponents like a mediocre team did that day to us. I mean you put a Bhutan in that CT final and even they wouldn't lose by 180 runs.

We had a comparatively easier route to the finals, and that helped the team to hide whatever the weaknesses. 

But the end result was obvious as they found an ammunition to target Kumble and the passengers could breathe easy so that they coul milk some more years out of whatever their mediocre careers.

So if a batting-noob like me can see his talent, it's surprising that the management doesn't give him a steady place in the team. Are they really retarded or is there something else going on

you making lot of assumptions here . Finals are rarely close matches  .

We are a top order heavy batting linup and if we are made to chase big totals even today against Bangla/WI in a tournament final we will lose .
