NCERT has successfully washed local legends... only if you can go past them you will find names like Adoor Gopalakrishnan, Raja Ravi Varma,PT Usha, Shankaracharya,Marthanda Varma

PT Usha used to be household name while we were growing up. Shankarcharya was mentioned at some places, but with little reference to Kerala.

 

Apart from that rest of the names rarely appear anywhere in books.

Sreedharan and Seshan, 2 modern era stalwarts were born in Kerala albeit they are Tamil speaking. Krishna Menon, Raja Ravi Varma, Milkman Kurien, Adoor Gopalakrishnan, Yesudas from the top of my head. Wiki me aur mil jaayega.
