Lessons to be learnt 

1) stick with the same batting order ,give them confidence and belief that they are going to be the core of the team 

2) play with 5 bowlers ,the extra bowler I.e pandya will come handy in a long 4-5 match series where it can be exhausting for the pacers to bowl long spells ,they need to be kept fresh 

3) trust pandya and play him regularly @6 to build up his confidence on dry,Flattish wkt 

4) play only 4 seamers and the extra batsman if it's a green top .india have got 5 quality pacers 

5) get back saha and stop experimenting with ttf like pappu,kdk 

6) bat first whenever given a chance ,our batters can't chase or survive batting 4th

India should drop Rohit Sharma and Shikar Dhawan from test squad for England. 

 

They should get 3 new batsman for England Series:

1 New Opener 

2 New Middle Order batsmen

7) Team selection is important and it affected the outcome of the first two tests to some degree. Kohli needs to do that better, avoid starting/choppoing players which affects their confidence and constantly back players in his team.

Choose a base team of 6-7 players and stick with them for all matches. Play around with other 4

This should be the base team. Other 3 should be selected based upon conditions.

Unfortunately, that isn’t the true. He isn’t best we have got. He has some positives though. 

 

And no. We won’t win in England and Australia unless we prioritise our preparation. I can be supportive but not delusional.

Chuck Pandya out. Go with 4 seamers + Ashwin in the bowling department and find 4 batsmen to support Kohli.

Ideally they should not be in the test team. This is especially true overseas.

1 & 2  & 4 agreed. Play at the least 4 practice games atleast in  the most swing/seam conditions in India

Too early to write off Pandya.He should be given chances and confidence to play his natural game all the time.

Apart from Rohit,Pujara too should not be in team in  non asian conditions. Dhawan can be played in NZL.

This is where the the huge problem comes. It is easier to say horses for courses and that Pujara has had bad average overseas so we should stick with him only at home and not pick him for overseas tours.  But the other thing is that how can we play Pujara at home all home season and just drop him for overseas and bring a new guy to play instead of him in England or Australia? That new guy will be basicaly coming without much match practice since Pujara was playing instead of him at home and hence will find hard to score on tough overseas tour and will likely not perform that easily as it looks like.

 

I think Pujara has sucked away from home but isn’t a bad option honestly.. We should closesly monitor his performance in England tour but we can’t afford to drop him at this time.

Yup. Horses for courses policy works for bowler-selection, not so much for batsman-selection.  It would be ridiculous to play Rohit Sharma on pattas, and replace him with Rahane as soon as there is some juice in the pitch.

Pujara seems to have no clue how to score runs in alien conditions,he tends to get into a hole we should try some one else and give him ample time to settle for Eng tour.We never had a batsman like Pujara ..Pujara s notion of batting is block block runout,caught etc

Pujara alone can destroy the hopes in AUS & ENG. Some highly talented stroke playing left hander should occupy the one down spot.

'a  proven failure of 56 tests' in all alien conditions should be dropped at the earliest for ever from the team.As if there are no other young talents in domestic circuit.....We have all rounders & useful lower order batsmen  in Jadeja,Ashwin,Kuldeep,Pandya,Saha & Bhuvi to select from  apart from top 5 or 6 batsmen in any home match.Yet if we can't be dominant in home conditions ,we don't even deserve to play & compete.Having said that ,just because Pujara was so dominant  in Asia doesn't mean his replacement(if only  he is such a great talent and almost all conditional player) can't do at least in almost nearer levels to Pujara in Asian conditions.And that player would definitely be much much better to Pujara in alien conditions.But we should try to start finding that talented player rather than sticking with this proven one dimensional  failure with no strokes & even no common sense.

To add, atleast 2 high quality left handed batsmen  need to be in the batting line up.If it is 3, that much better.

Pujara sucks the whole momentum.He can't rotate strike apart from being mediocre in all alien countries.One down is the most important position in test cricket, job being not only play out new ball if opener falls early , but to  consolidate as well. And this use less hack is holding the most important position.Can't even score in county cricket.Now we expect him to score huge tons  against Anderson,Broad etc etc!!!!!!!!!!!!! Keep in mind he is no Dravid who straight away  adapted to English conditions like a 'duck into water '.

1) Rohit was given a long rope to cement his place ODI team. He should prove himself in county cricket. (I'm sure he will get offers if he prioritizes it. BCCI should give incentive by making it mandatory for test selection). Do not close the door on him.

2) Dhawan out. He might score a century by hacking/slashing once in 10 innings even in tough conditions but that is about it. Not worth investing.

3) Pandya out. In tests, either you should be a strike bowler who can bat a bit or a strike batsman who can bowl a bit. This should be the definition of all rounder. The emphasis on team balance as a reason to accommodate him looks good only on paper.

4) Saha is still the best wicketkeeper. He can take half chances which mean saving runs which in turn amounts to scoring runs. Parthiv is solid backup.

5) Last tour to England we suffered a few injuries to key bowlers so we should look for few more options.

6) IPL ends in may 27. Players who are in test fold and participate heavily in IPL must get sufficient rest before the tour.
