What will be role of Pandya in this test series?

Recommended Posts

1. Score a 50 in just one inning and escape criticism because he isn't considerer main batsman and Dhawan, Rahul, Kohli, to take all balme in case of failures?

2. Bowl like part timer just meant to give rest to bowlers with 5-6 wickets in the series. End series with 150-200 runs and 5-6 wickets.

Or

1. Score handy 20-30 runs on regular basis with couple of fifties. More importantly survive 50+ balls regularly even if he scores 10-15 runs, so that a partnership is built with other set batsman like Kohli or Rahane and not to get out playing a ramp shot.

2. Not to go wicketless and return with 10+ wickets in series. 300+ runs and 10+ wickets is what India need?

We need to see if Pandya + Ashwin can fill the role of one specialist batsman

With the ball both need to hold their own

That's the biggest problem, 2x0.5 A/R usually doesn't work, especially when Pandya and Ashwin's strong suit, batting and spin bowling, will be negated by the pitches.

his main role is going to be of a batsman and a support bowlers to frontline pacers

As I said a minute back, his strong suit will be negated (somewhat) by English pitches. If he doesn't pick up wickets, through fielding or bowling, he will be a liability IMO. I think Ashwin+Pandya, while a safe choice, is also a wrong one.

on serious note, if he plays i hope he contributes with the ball more positively

I want him to contribute with the bat more, not ball.  In bowling friendly conditions, you want as many runs as possible. Regarding ball, if Shami, Yadav, Ishant could not do, naive to expect him to make much impact with the ball.  As a batsman, he has 4-5 50 plus scores at 7 in 10 innings with 1 hundred and 1 90 and we actually need a batting alrounder who can bowl 10 overs a day giving rest to man bowlers and not a bowling alrounder.

So you're not expecting anything from Ashwin? If the leading spinner doesn't contribute enough with the ball, then what is he in the team for - I know, batting!

being a batting alrounder, i want him to do rescue acts when early wicket falls and build partnerships with DK, Rahane and the lower order.  Play aggressively and do calculated counter attack.  300 runs and at least two wickets per match.

hope Ashwin+ Pandya can play the role of a specialist batsman to perfection. After all there sum of averages comes to around 65.

Easily will be way more than handy  than that hack Pujara. And Pandya   needs to play his natural  'attacking' game. That is where he is so good at.And then support the pace bowlers in bowling short spells and picking 1 or odd wkts. That's all.

A three seamers is a must if he's playing. We cannot trust his bowling and moreover if he wants to continue, then he needs to contribute atleast with the bat. A regular 30-35 runs is needed from him every innings.

he averages 36 so it means he is doing a good job with the bat. four 50 plus scores in 10 innings already.

i think we will need his bowling more than batting, wickets against teh run of play ids what you expect from your all rounder

It depends whether he is a bowling alrounder or batting. Pandya is a batting alrounder, So, i expect runs from him.

he has an equally important role in the side as a bowler, if he is a batting all rounder much more is expected out of him rather than  1-2 fifties
