Kulddeep or Jadeja for second test

The smart move will be to go in with 2 spinner, especially due to a uniquely harsh and dry summer.

 

So who will it be?

 

Kuldeep:

 

- X factor, success against England in the shorter formats.

- Took 3 wickets at Lords during the ODIs

- Attacking bowler, gets more purchase of the wicket. 

- Can hold a bat, albeit nothing exceptional, 5 50s and a century in domestic.

 

 

Jadeja:

 

- Second English tour

- Can bowl extremely long spells and contain runs

- India's best fielder

- Like Pandya tagged as an all-rounder but hit or miss with bat. Albeit better than Kuldeep. Scored a test 50 at Lords last time.

 

So?!

I select Jadeja since he is among best test bowlers rankings and moreoever there are lot of right handers in England side who can turn the ball away from their batsmen plus batting.

Kuldeep may be a bigger match winner but i want a reliable option now.

Kuldeep can be groomed into a good lower order all rounder like a spinning version of Boobie if the team management wants.
He can be better than Jaddu on the long run but right now Jaddu
But then, I don't expect anything from Kohli-Shastri regime.

It's England. You play four fast bowlers including pandya. I'd only think of getting the second spinner if Shami is unfit and I'd take jadeja for the control he brings.

There’s this line of thought that selecting Kuldeep will show Indian Team in panic mode and revealing its trump card so early in the series... So Jaddu should play this test and Kuldeep can come in later...

Summer is over.  Weather is changing from tomorrow onward.  According to weather.com, max temp will be 21-23 range on all match days with minimum hovering in 12-15 degrees and pitch is green.

If it comes down to that play both. Rest Ashwin for a test, he also deserves a rap on his knuckles for batting like a moron. Whoever does well among these 2 should partner Ash in test 3. This is a long series, rotate all bowlers so that there is some gas left in the end.

I have some radical suggestions.  Two scenarios.

 

1. Can we play all three spinners?  Lets drop both Pandya and Umesh for Jaddu and Kuldeep and see if this gamble works.

2. Can we play all three spinners? Lets drop Dhawan and Rahane for Jaddu and Kuldeep.  Both are not going to do with the bat worse than these two anyway.

First one is acceptable, second one is not. Though I'd prefer Dhawan out as well for Pujara or Pant, also Shami has to be fit to bowl 20+ overs if the (overhead) conditions are favorable for pacers.
