Kohli v Dravid/Ponting

With this performance in England, Kohli has now completed his batting resume.

 

Dravid was technically better, but struggled against top bowlers of his time. Although one can say that all batsmen struggle against top bowlers, but his 1 away century against ATGs shows the difference.

 

Ponting was similar to Kohli. Dominant everywhere and very consistent run making.

too many comparisons being made Kohli vs this, kohl vs that.

 

regarding ponting, he had a pretty  average record in india until maybe the last tour.  overall avg of 26

Kohli is better than other too but the others are good too.

Overall careers. Look at his overseas performances. Not to mention the LOIs where he's one step away from becoming the GOAT.

not yet ...again the basic mistake of  comparing an unbelievable talent with proven greats.Let him play a lot more .Then only this comparison itself can be started. Yes there is every chance of him surpassing them by the time he finishes his career. But as of now it is not.Any thing can still happen. Keep in mind the same Kohli avg:ed in digits vs AUS at home not long before.

I guess ponting averaged around 60 till 2007-08 (after around 105-110 matches) after which his peak went down alot.

Kohli still has issues with moving balls....Dravid's technique had no apparent weakness. Ofcourse, Virat's hunger for runs is bigger and better.

Tough to match Ponting's peak. In 5 years 2002,03,04,05,06 he had 6000+ runs in with an avg of 74. 

Probably the closest to Bradman anyone we have seen.

That's why it is important to wait before assessing the true standing of a batsman.

It is not tough to pile runs in form but how you bat in your lean patch and recover from it sets goats and greats apart.

Ponting was beast in his prime, his peak was far better than Sachin's or Lara's . Kohli is not there yet.Dravid I personally don't rate him high as he never had ability to change game on his own. Dravid greatest attribute was ability to stitch partnerships without any ego.
