Talk about temperament for a 20 year old. To be honest being 20 year old is not an excuse for being brainless. I have seen Sachin,Kohli, Rohit and even guys like Irfan Pathan,Parthiv Patel showed plenty of maturity at the same age while batting. He has a lot more upside than MSD ever did especially overseas but him slogging to midwicket when 3 fielders are on the leg side boundary when he could just play out the over is not a good sign. He left 3 balls from Lyon and just when that looked impressive slogged the next ball. He should just play it according to situation. He just over attacks. UrmiSinhaRay 1 Link to comment

We'll find out in the next test if this was his own doing or whether the TM wanted this play your natural game/intent BS from him. If PP gets the next test I'd say this performance/mindless slogging is Pant's fault, otherwise it's on TM. Link to comment

ShoonyaSifar
Unfair comaprison. Dhoni went on his first away tour outside Asia 18 months after making his test debut and having played away series in WI, SA and Eng. Better to look at Dhoni in all those series Tour to WI - 158 runs in 7 innings @23 Tour to SA - 104 runs in 4 innings@25 Tour to Eng - 209 runs in 5 innings@52 Tour to Aus - 141 runs in 8 innings@18 Total 612 runs in 24 innings @26 UrmiSinhaRay 1 Link to comment

youngindia
he has shown an encouraging ability to learn quickly so far. but he lacks the mature approach to make a difference. The other day he was taking all mighty haves like in the 49 or 50th over. These things won't work. can't the seniors guide him? will certainly be better than Dhoni overseas. but he is a no 7 for the foreseeable future and will most likely take 4-5 years to be a reliable player. The positive factor in his favor is players ,who show a ability to learn and adapt quickly, are worth their weight in gold. look at the other younger players who are struggling even in Ranji. but he is not going to be a big factor in the near future except weaker sides at home. Its not as if India would have won the game anyway. Rather than cluttering his mind with the thought of saving Umesh, he should have just batted normally. Take it as a batting practice for next test. If he had done that, we might have batted little more than 1 hour. But he decided to go for ugly slog and got out same fashion again. Sent from my SM-G950F using Tapatalk Last time he got criticised for not shielding and now you are criticising for shielding. This is just blame game no matter what he does. Link to comment

The regular test wk was Saha .... in which case the batting is on par (Pant has more potential but is throwing his wkt away) and WKing is below par This. Pant fans should have higher standards and compare his keeping to Saha. "Anyways he's better than Dhoni" isn't gonna do any good. Batting wise, he's better than Saha and will probably learn. Plus, being a 20 year old is no excuse for not playing to the situation. He's in the team because the management thinks he's better than 25/30 year olds, and should act that way. beetle
I feel bad for Pant. Just because of dhoni fans...everything he does goes under a magnifying glass. Most other players would be getting a thumbs up for performing upto what he has done in his short career but he will be judged like he has to perform at every thing 100% all the time. With the exception of bumrah...which other youngster has done justice to his place like Pant has done? People expect him to be perfect after 7 matches? Who has ever done that ever....? Every player who's playing in the team has to go under the magnifying glass purely because of the competition. Criticism and comments will be there..adding Dhoni factor, it only makes it more ..It probably has become more because of social media. UrmiSinhaRay 1 Link to comment
