Overrated - Root 

In test root average below 50 & most of test centuries came at home ( only 4 out of 13 outside home ) every former player of England think Their team is best in word & root is also but that's not true .they lucky when come to win toss that's why they won last year more test.

 

Underated - Taylor ,Holder

Overrated: Jimmy Anderson, Kane Williamson, Ross Taylor (both kane & ross have failed many times in tough situation), Stokes, Starc (in tests), Joe Root (in tests), Bhuvi (in odis).

 

Underrated: Pat Cummins, Shami, Neil Wagner, BJ Watling, Roston Chase, Jason Holder, Karunaratne.

Overrated - Starc in tests. Avg of 29 and he shouldn't be top bowler of any era, yet somehow he is mentioned as some of kind of threat in tests.

He has gotten worse since ball tampering saga. Even in odis he has lost the touch he had in 2015.

underrated - Jadeja the test player.  Lankan pacer who got a fifer at the gabba - steadily putting up quality performances but overshadowed by a weak team.  Tamim Iqbal in ODIs.  Mushfiq test batsman.  

 

overrated - Starc.  Stokes the test batsman. Dhoni the ODI "batsman".  Imad "poor man's Jadeja" wasim.  Babar "soft runs" Azam.  Faf du plessis as test batsman.

You really do tend to overrate players post 2k especially 2010 onwards, don't you? Take SL, WI out & MS is beyond avg for a front-line Aussie quick!

Faf isn't very highly rated batsman. Same goes for Yasir Shah. Stokes, Rabada are highly rated.

And still with those wickets and SR his performance isn't among top 10 pacers currently. Yet he is rated as top pacer in world. Quality wise Rabada, Steyn, Anderson, Broad, Roach, Bumrah, Shami, Ishant, Boult, Wagner are better than him currently. 

 

He is definition of overrated in modern cricket.

It is all relative, there may be grounds to say that even Kohli or some past greats like Viv, Gavaskar are over rated. It just means they get more praise and respect than they deserve. 

 

Faf is rated highly but nobody brings up his piss poor record in Asia. If an Asian player had/has such stats in SENA you won't hear the end of it. 

Yasir is frequently called the best in the world, Warne and Sky experts keep hyping him up, his record in SENA is horrible.

Never seen anyone mentioning him as great batsmen. He is usually rated as just a good batsman which he is.

Reading the posts here there is not much consensus, so under-rated and over-rated are more likely to be from individual perspectives

He is not a good batsman, he is bang average..a poor man's Rahane. In fact worse, he is the worst ever SENA batsman in Asia and at home he is frequently outclassed by 4-5 batsmen every series.

RKT has seen most of his cricket only post 2000, so obviously he is oblivious of the quality of cricket of the past. Never found Starc to be striking!
