Since  the slot is wide open, let us see how some of the “potential” contenders including wildcards stand up and perform. Pujara’s name was thrown in the mix but since he is not in the IPL here is a list of players.  Know it’s a different format but never say never with our selectors.

The ones in contention are obviously the ones that have been tried in recent times.

I am adding a few names who might play in that 3-5 position and impress enough to go to the WC

Here are some names that have the best shot:

Rahane- will open

Iyer- might bat at 3-4

Rayudu- will open

Pandey- will bat at 4-5

DK- will bat at 5-6

Pant- will open

Shankar- will bat at 5-6

Rahul- will open

Can always be a possibility

Yuvraj- will bat at 4-5

Raina- will bat at 3-4

Wild cards to keep a look out for

Karun Nair- will bat at 4

Hanuma Vihari- if picked will bat at 4-5

Prithwi Shaw- will open

Ishan Kishen- will bat at 3-4

Mayank Aggarwal- will open

Shubman Gill- will bat at 4

Based on the list Iyer,Pandey and DK might get the best shot to impress in the middle overs.

Agree. The first two have to show up really big, like an orange cap. Pandey has ton in Aus

Mumbai playing Yuvraj but not Ishan Kishan lol.

Nothing surprising. If team buys Yuvraj he starts in playing eleven at least in the beginning of the tournament. Not like Ishan is Kohli.
