Sad to see SA in such a manner

This team used to be everyone's favourite team and everyone wanted them to win WC at least once but sadly the current situation shows that it will be a long time before they win WC unless they go through England type of transformation but that's unlikely due to transformation (pun intended). Imagine the same team had legends like Smith, Kallis, ABD, Donald etc and now they have bits and pieces like Pretorious and Lucky and what not

SA can still bounce back. Steyn return could help it to pick early wkts, while the batting is likely to improve as the tournament progresses. Like most teams, SA was expected to lose to Eng. The big negative is the NRR

Someone like Faf who made the same mistake in the IPl more than once. Targeting better bowlers and getting out.  You gotta calculate the odds of who you should go after. You cannot take on every bowler non stop and hope to get away. Also every single batsman got out while trying to hit in the air. There was no Kohli like ground shot approach right till 35th or 40th over.

Its not just about tactics, They surely lack the quality which they had all these years and sadly they dont have any world beaters in the domestic either. Steyn is a shadow of himself now and pitches will seldom help him

Sorry but Steyn was never a great odi bowler.He is one of ATG in test cricket but odis/t20s he is very spotty.Amla got hurt so I don't want to say anything negative but he should have shown more aggression.

When you don't have quality your next best option is tactic. Maximize what you have instead of trying to compete with the opposition on exact terms.

South Africa is missing abdv , problem is his replacements are not good enough,they should have played Miller.

They had a great chance in 2015.. Blew it with run out misses and dropped catches.. They could have put up a much better fight vs Aus in the final than NZ did..

 

The biggest missed opportunity of course was 1999.

Not really, SA are still 3rd best ODI as per ICC rankings

 

And they have Markram, who will eventually assume role of best SA batsmen. Miller and Morris are in the squad. And Ngidi proving he is right up there with Rabada. 

 

And fortunately for SA, if they hit rock bottom, they can just flick a switch and call back some of the Kolpak players to play for them.

 

Problem for SA is for some funny reason they can't seem to drop Amla despite his mediocre form.and even more importantly being a mental midget in ICC tournaments.

 

Drop Amla, open with Makram and bring in Miller.

It happens. Sri Lanka also had an epic side for around two decades, now they look weaker than Bangladesh.

 

Windies went through a long patch of mediocrity, and although their current side has high potential this WC will decide whether they have what it takes.

 

It's not all bad, I think they bowled quite well. They need to focus on the new generation of players coming through and build up their batting from scratch.

 

Amla is over the hill, Du Plessis will retire soon and the rest of their batsmen shouldn't really be batting above 5.

Faf blundered again by choosing to bowl first . RSA can't handle the pressure of chasing at all. And England have a deadly combination of pace and spin . I agree that quality-wise there is no comparison but this match would have been much closer if SA had batted first.

People are not understanding, no matter how important tactics are, you cant win games with average players. I wont be shocked even if Bongladesh humbles SA as well

Not entirely true, some white players leaving because they can get more money playing for English  County team then playing international cricket for SA, Duanne Oliver is most recent example

They can make more money if they have long and steady career as SA international, more offers from T20 leagues also, but they know they have to make way for an inferior black player hence they play safe and leave for county offer.

Lol they can more from one IPL season Jan years in county if they keep on playing for SA
