BCCI should stop disrespecting Bangladesh cricket team

Pardon me, I have made fun of the Toygers many times here but they have my grudging respect. Vastly improved side and they play an entertaining brand of cricket, especially while batting. Disgrace that they have played just a test and T20 each here (every other test playing nation has invited them more number of times)...they took the test to day 5 (impressive considering our stellar home run then) and the epic WT20 clash which all but knocked us out of the tournament. They have never been invited for ODI/T20 series here which is strange. By far the 2nd best ODI side from Asia and in Asian conditions I rate them as top 4/5....believe they will make the SF cut in 2023 !!!! 

 

Last 4-5 years even though H2H is one sided in our favor there have been many nailbiters and quality matches, with a little bit of luck and better nerves they could have caused many heartburns for Indian fans. Finalists in last 2 Asia Cups (3/4 if you include AC 2012), QF in 2015 WC (thank you Rohit ), SF in 2017 CT...can't take them lightly any more. Why do we keep inviting the Lankan minnows for 5 match series every alternate year when we have been fed enough of that rivalry? Even WI hardly bother in these bilaterals, they have copped their share of beatings. I know BD have a tour to India later this year but frequency needs to be increased. They have a passionate (sometimes rowdy) fanbase, WWE style theatrics (Nagin dance, media wars, politicians getting involved, players drama...), political relations are excellent and stars like Fizz, Shakib have significant following in India courtesy IPL....even Soumya/Liton have the potential to be big, midget clown is the best heel in modern day cricket , enough characters there to spark interest. On our pitches they will definitely run us closer than most other teams (including 2 of the SENA members RSA, NZ) with their batting, array of good spinners and medium pace cutters. Cricket is booming there as is their economy, sponsors will love more showdowns between the neighbors. 

 

I say bring on the India-Bangladesh rivalry. Their fans might even outnumber ours in Eden, FSK, Guwahati etc for obvious reasons  and crowds will be jam packed with amazing intensity, lots of noise and passion...electrifying as The Rock would say.

We are playing 2 tests and 3 T20's against BD this November.

I like their team. Yes, they are an emotional bunch but they kind of remind me of Indian team before the Ganguly era . The fans too. And with the kind of cricket they are playing, they deserve respect. In fact, I hope they replace Pakistan as the 2nd best Asian team in both ODIs and tests permanently.

Liton somya  mushfiq and shakib are my favorite from Bangladesh team.

Yes they have improved but bowling is still awful. Will guarantee one more 200 for Rohit.

Unless they adequately improved in that aspect they won't be taken seriously.

They have a poor bowling  line up but a top class batting unit. as a unit they are better than Pakistan and WI. We fall into the Pakistani trap and make unpredictable a glamorous word and mistake that for excitement.

On Indian pitches an attack of Taskin, Rubel, Fizz, Shakib, Mehidy will be decent. Besides for some weird reason Indian top 3 has struggled more often than not against BD these last few years.

How is it "disrespect".  There is always a perception lag in terms of the audience.  Now that BD are starting to put up consistent results, the market demand will correct itself eventually, and so will the schedule.

 

If anything, the BCCI has helped BD cricket tremendously over the years - keep in mind that hosting them doesn't earn them money - but playing there does.  India have played tons of white ball cricket in Bangladesh.   And BCCI also used their influence in ICC to get BD hosting rights for so many big tournaments.  Bangladesh board earned hundreds of millions thanks to BCCI.  

 

But the vocal and thin-skinned BD fans who are always ready to feel "offended" over things real and imaginary consistently overlook all this history.  Kind of like how so many of those toygers decided that they were "offended" by mauka-mauka, when none of the ads mentioned Bangladesh.

In ODIs they are a solid team. Current SA team is mediocre.

 

Shakib,Tamim,Lipton,Mushfiqur,Shoumya,Mahamadullah is way way better line up then the current top 6 of SA. Yes SA bowling with Rabada and Tahir is way better but 90% of odi  games are batting shoot outs.

 

I will back Bangladesh to beat SA 9/10 times on a flat pitch or on slow and low home pitches.

 

Yes on bouncy and grass tracks advantage SA. But that is few and far in a modern odi game.

I back BD in their home tests against RSA. Last time a much stronger RSA team escaped courtesy rain, then got blanked 0-2 in Lanka.

Some of us have long memories about that subject 

Question for you , would you employ someone with no experience of the job applying for?  Your answer will be no , so why are there at least 3 test nations with test status with no first class set up and their  national teams have  no experience of playing 5 day cricket , no 4 day and very very little 3 day . 

Those teams will never be test nations as you need a first class base playing at least 3 day but preferably 4 day  cricket  but with other countries such as Scotland, Nepal, Netherlands they could be very competitive ODI and T20 nations .

Surely it can't be beyond man to expand cricket in the shorter formats that expands number of nations and still keep core test nations
