Any self respecting team would sack these two players for this display

ask dhoni, he's the one who can tell you. my guess is he wanted to make life more difficult for Pakistani. nothing else explains it.

Lol. He might have as well gotten out to make life difficult for Pakistan. He didn't.. he just wants to use the NRR excuse to hide his inabilities. There's nothing more to it

his finishing capabilities are waning. everyone knows it. its not a secret. if he had failed one more time today, it wouldn't make any difference to his image as a finisher.

I'm saying exactly the same thing

Steve waugh, one of the greatest captains of all time, is a coward. :phehe:

I didnt get it ?

IIRC In 1999 ,Australia, nzl and windies were in the same group ,nzl already qualified and Australia had to win that windies game chasing 106 odd, that was a tricky pitch .

Nzl went into the super six with 4 points carry forward, Australia had none ,so I didn't get what is he talking here :dontknow:

But it was done to favour his own team ,not to oust nzl out of the world cup .

The funda was the teams going forward to super six carry forward points if they registered victory against the other qualifier ,so had Australia pak and windies qualified, aus would have qualified with 4 points (beating windies) ,pak with 8 (having beaten both windies and aus) and windies with 0 .

So this move was primarily to benefit his own side with 4 points and not with the objective of solely knocking out the kiwis .

But as it panned out ,Australia reached the super six with 0 points lol

McGrath's fondness for publicly nominating his preferred 'victim' ahead of major series became legendary as his career continued to unfurl but, in light of the impact he had wrought on the World Cup to that moment, it seemed more hubris than pragmatism.

In looking to supplement the blueprint with more practical actions, Waugh then studied the vagaries of the tournament's playing conditions and noted the crucial part net run rates would play in the likelihood of teams reaching the Super Six phase on equal points

Not only would Australia enter that next stage with no carry-over points, but they risked being ranked third among the Group B qualifiers if (as expected) New Zealand scored a thumping win over Scotland in their final group game the following day.

Unless, as Waugh confirmed on match eve in Manchester, Australia defeated the West Indies in circumstances that saw their Caribbean rivals' net run rate edge ahead of New Zealand's, thus consigning the Kiwis to elimination at conclusion of the group stage.

That scenario carried the added bonus of ensuring Australia finished second (ahead of the West Indies) among the Group B teams advancing to Super Six stage, further enhancing their chances of securing a semi-final berth.

Does he mean 2003 WC?

Steve Waugh didn't play 2003 WC.

Aussie selectors dropped him around early 2002 iirc for being too old and a bit outdated for the 'modern' ODI game. Steve Waugh went back to his state team and played quite a few List A matches, and even started bowling again to get back into the WC squad, but selectors didn't pick him.

Unfortunately it appears as if one guy used this game to get a 100, while other used it to get another not out

It is not about what batting Ind has after 7. It is about who can do the job. If you have to tuktuk to waste 100 balls, then that is not doing the job. Every ball you waste is only making it difficult for the next batsman. I would rather you got a 85 of 70 and got out to give more balls (and therefore also minimize risks for the new batsman). As for Dhoni and Jadhav, their job was to get the big hits in. They were supposed to go for it. If they cannot get big hits in, get out. Rather be 310 all out in trying to win than be 300/5 (looking like fools)

While chasing you are not trying to match the other team’s scoring pattern. Say Eng got 25 in the last over, would you also plan to score 25 in the last?!  Ind should have planned to get at least 250 by the 40th over. Our runrate was less than 6 for most part of the inning

150 in 15 overs at 10 rpo? It was doable seeing the ground size but they lacked intent after Dhongi came to bat. Even Pandya slowed down for some reason or he just couldn't able to hit the fast bowlers. Jadhav is one more useless player and it's a mystery how he is even in the squad.
