sarcastic Posted October 13, 2019 Posted October 13, 2019 (edited) After second test match vs SA, Virat Kohli's captaincy record stands as 50 matches, 30 wins, 10 draws, 10 losses. It can get even better in the next few years where Kohli can go on to become the MOST SUCCESSFUL TEST CAPTAIN ever who captained for ANY international team. How is he achieving such great feats when his RCB captaincy looks so innocuous. What is Kohli doing right in test matches but not in limited over formats. Edited October 13, 2019 by sarcastic

How is he achieving such great feats when his RCB captaincy looks so innocuous. What is Kohli doing right in test matches but not in limited over formats. kohli's test record is largely due to home record. in away matches, we have done well against weaker teams like SL and WI. aus was the only major team we beat, and that too sans stewie. in fact, kohli's captaincy has arguably lost us quite a few test matches, esp in SA and eng. the reason we have done well in tests is because of top-notch all conditions bowling attack allied to 2-3 good batsmen. in ODIs and t20s, we lacked wicket takers in middle order (during ash-jaddu era) and throughout we had no middle order worth noting past no.3. raki05 1

In the longer format, the team with the better resources wins more often than not. The moment he is up against even marginally stronger teams (like RSA and Eng away in those conditions) he gets exposed. raki05, addicted4444, SK_IH and 2 others 5
cricketfan28 Posted October 13, 2019 Posted October 13, 2019 Has the potential to become greatest captain.
Khota Posted October 13, 2019 Posted October 13, 2019 He lost CT and he lost WC. He needs to win the big ones before he is called great. Suhaan 1

Ankit_sharma03 Posted October 13, 2019 Posted October 13, 2019 Every captain has his Plus n minuses. In LOI i dont rate him highly...... But in test number speaks for himself .......he has the attack n he is giving results . Surely their have been some mistakes but then who hasnt done in the past n captains in future wud repeat to.

LOI n Test captaincy is diff .......dhoni was another example of it- had a gr8 command over LOI but not in test cricket Few reasons why he has done well in test but never satisfied many in LOI In LOI time is less so coming back post committing mistakes isnt easy. Due to lack of time u need be instinctive specially regd out of box moves , part time bowlers- now everyone has instincts but only the ones who backs them gets result. Kohli doesnt trust his instincts much......as we have seen he cant back his good or bad calls In World tournament final or KO games its mostly about nerves n pressure.....kohli crumbles it as captain which affects the team. He has numbers in LOI but not tournaments. Test bowling lineup is far more settled i feel- in LOI apart from bumrah their is a lil unrest....take kulcha example who have been unsettled In LOI u need to blood in youngsters to have X-factor kohli is bad at settling youngsters In LOI he tried to hard to become dhoni but one shud be himself. Dhoni didnt try to become like someone else Test cricket till now didnt have KO n multi-tournament which is his problem or else in ODI he still has gr8 numbers Edited October 13, 2019 by Ankit_sharma03

maniac Posted October 14, 2019 Posted October 14, 2019 The list is not too long. His competitors are Wadekar,Pataudi, Gavaskar,Kapil, Azhar,Ganguly,Dravid,Kumble and Dhoni. out of that bunch his record speaks for itself. Now people say he was handed over a great team. Well the pace bowling culture nurtured by his predecessor was pretty well known, so that busts the myth. Kohli just has the numbers. As far as team building goes Ganguly is ahead and maybe Pataudi. Also Dravid was the closest to kohli in the way he handled likes of Sreeshanth,RP,Munaf etc in the fast bowling dept. Kohli has a pretty strong case
Peshust Posted October 14, 2019 Posted October 14, 2019 (edited) I actually think it was Rahul Dravid who despite having Chappell as his camp mate and sub-standard players like VRV Singh came close to beating RSA in RSA. Infact we should have won against a very strong RSA team in 2006 in RSA if we had picked a fit bowler instead of Munaf Patel who broke down after bowling half a dozen overs and started bowling at 114-115 kph after getting injured. Then Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid themselves dug themselves into a hole and we ended up losing the test and the series. After Chappell, we beat England in England quite comfortably. The big blot on Rahul Dravid's CV as a captain was Karachi test 2006- the other blot was drawing at home against a weak English side in 2006. Otherwise he was strategically and tactically sound. Yet to see any such performance by Virat's team in test matches. Edited October 14, 2019 by Peshust Vijy, Ankit_sharma03, Jimmy Cliff and 2 others 5
nevada Posted October 14, 2019 Posted October 14, 2019 The results speak for themselves. Statistically, he is the best. Winning series in Eng and SA would have elevated his legacy even higher because winning at home is kinda expected as we have been a super strong team at home since the days of Azharuddin-Wadekar combo.
mani sha Posted October 14, 2019 Posted October 14, 2019 tactically kumble was a better captain emotionally ganguly was better wrt luck Virat is lucky to have bumrah ashwin jaddu Shami ishant and yadavs with pants and Saha at his disposal . No captain ever had a luxury of 10 pacers , 3-4 quality spinners and amazing keeper and keeper bats dhoni was conservative in terms of ranking no 1 kumble / ganguly no 2 Gavaskar / kapil no 3 tendulkar - he had weakest teams ever - dodda kuruvilla etc no 4 Kohli no 5 fixer

rtmohanlal Posted October 14, 2019 Posted October 14, 2019 Kapil Dev would stand out as the captain. Kohli would come a close second.

putrevus Posted October 14, 2019 Posted October 14, 2019 He lost CT and he lost WC. He needs to win the big ones before he is called great. How many CT , World Cup and T20 World Cup did Dhoni lose. India did not even qualify for knockouts in many of those tournaments.Kohli is the greatest captain across all formats for India. It is Kohli the batsman who needs to show up in ICC World Cups.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Jimmy Cliff and Norman 2
