Bro, 5-6k's? Really? When? When did Donald bowl 5k's quicker than Shami? He bowled in early 150's ( if he did ) in the early part of his career. Even around 96-97, he was clocked at a fastest of 147, if I remember correctly. That is so similar to Shami's pace ;p

I'm talking about average pace. Donald did not bowl in high 150s like Akhtar but he did average 88-90 mph till 2000 before he totally lost his pace and bowled at Bhuvi speeds in final 2 years. Shami generally averages in 85-87 mph range but don't get deceived by the speed gun here, he has the ability to extract zip off any pitch which cannot be measured by speed guns.

I get what you are saying, but if I may, let me allow you to correct the facts. Donald wasnt averaging 88-90mph even around 98/99 season. He was bowling around 142k top, ranging more often between 138-142ish. Very close to Ajit Agarkar's pace.

I never saw Donald click 145k's even once but I am aware that he did touch 154 once  and he was clocked at 147 in 97/98.

What a ridiculous topic.Didn’t the same SA team beat Australia both home and away. Home ABDV was there and Amla did not do much.

So which genius is going to win World Cup when these will be the top three for next World Cup too. Unless these top three deliver in big spot India is not winning anything.

What is the guarantee that guy like with so many holes in his technique will deliver overseas.

When did Donald average 88 to 90 mph with speed guns in use  ?

Donald averaged 88 mph throughout the England tour, in Trent Bridge he averaged 90 mph with fastest being 153 kph, I think it was that Atherton spell.

Shami is a simple fast bowler like Allan Donald, what I mean here is that the day Shami loses his pace he will be easy to play. He does not have a strategic mind like Zaheer Khan who can outsmart a batsman. Allan Donald too became very ineffective after losing his pace, I think when Gilchrist made 208 in SA tour he hit around 8 sixes out of which 6 sixes were hit off Donald's bowling.

SA winning against Aus was from 3-4 years ago. But as recently as 6 months ago this SA side was whitewashed at home by SL off all teams. So we should take this with a bag of salt!

Test wins are utmost ,yes we lost in the world cup and have glaring weaknesses , yes we might continue to flutter in tests in SENA because of wrong team selection and deluded kohli and bewda but I dont agree with this notion of losing a home test series to bloody proteas just as a mark for change. We need to be up for the WTC finals anyway possible.

The biggest problem though is having easy home series against the likes of Lanka and Bangladesh followed up by a tough SENA tour ,its a recipe for disaster

Zaheer averaged almost 33 in test cricket, so that strategic mind did not really achieve what is expected of a top bowler.

While the 2 simple fast bowlers have much better bowling averages.

I'd be mighty surprised if speed guns were used in that series, I think you are talking of 95 series.

I beg to differ. Shami is a fox. He has all the tricks up his sleeve, pace, bounce, seam, reverse swing, swing when needed too. And he is pretty quick and aggressive in reading the batsmen. He can get you out in more ways than one.

Ofcourse time can only tell. but I am willing to bet that loss of pace wont affect his ability

Cricket is a physical sport, here physical gifts are more effective than being smart. Zak was highly limited in skills and pace, so he compensated that with being street smart.

It's 98 tour, I have read articles about speed guns long ago somewhere in 2010 about Donald's speeds in that series.

And no, Shami is not a fox, you're exaggerating. He is a simple fast bowler who thrives on pace, and pure fast bowlers are not meant to think too much apart from being calm, just go out and enjoy yourself and let pace do the work.

Part of WTC...120 points gained

Consolidated #1 ranking...test mace all but guaranteed next year

Takes impressive home streak forward..what is it now, 26-1 ?

Scars inflicted upon Proteas, warning to other teams

All round performance

Legendary keeping by Super Saha

Rohit the opener, Mayank scoring 100s, hostility of quicks, Kohli's rut ending, Rahane continuing resurgence, spinners doing well

Whining and worrying can come later, now is the time to celebrate the GOAT home test side (when you take into account home records of all sports still we will come out among the top). You realize what an honour it is for others to play a series in India, pinnacle of the sport, toughest test in their lives like playing Nadal in Philippe Chatrier.

Some negatives no doubt, but need to relish the good stuff. ODI/T20 mein bahut problem hai 100% agree, 1 months before NZ tour there will be legit concerns about our SENA blunders from last cycle...right now home fortress is impregnable so sit back and :giphy:

GOAT sides draw crowds to stands and create a frenzy for the sport among the fans. Half empty stadiums (not even half full on a single day of the series) show what the general public, that pays to watch cricket live, thinks of the team.

That reflects more on the general public. Saffers were number one in 2013-14 I think, when GOAT AR Kallis was playing his last test..this was the crowd. That team also featured Smith, Amla, ABDV, Steyn etc, nature of test cricket and the state of the world.

Most of the players who played in this series are either first choice players or injury / incapacity replacements.

Bumrah will be back when he is fit.

So, the only contentious selections were Saha over Pant and Rohit over some other batter who may or may not succeed in Sena.

Rahane over Vihari ( although I don't like it personally ) was always going to happen as Rahane is the VC.

If  ...

-- We are selecting 9 players right

-- And winning against a historically strong opponent who have humiliated us many times in the past

-- And our fast bowlers are winning us matches sans our best fast bowler on slow tracks of Asia

Then ...

There is not that much to be sad about

And there is a lot to be happy about our fast bowling and fast bowling culture.

Completely annihilating SA in a test series is something to be happy about just in itself. This is not a series against a long time minnow where team building is the primary objective.

I would be unhappy if we do not try Saini, Gill, Pant, Vihari and Kuldeep against BD in tests.

I m not talking about tests .. it’s overall selection

we can be no 1 in all three formats but by celebrating a home success against the weakest south African team I have ever seen is just crazy .

unmesh looked like Donald reincarnated and I just think the opposition was useless ..

thankfully it seems ganguly coming in is helping - dubey , Samson in t20

- gill in tests

- dhoni our from All forms

positives coming in ..

Would you go to stadium with no bathrooms and also no sun shade with limited availability of food for even single day, forget full five days.BCCI has to invest more to create better facilities and give them more amenties.

Ticket buying should also be made online and it should be easier too.Crowds have nothing to do with team being good or bad.Gone are days when public used to tolerate all this nonsense.

Think public will come to watch a Warne no matter where .. the aussie side of 2000 or the klussener South Africa would have had twice the crowds .

People demand better facilities, else there are better options of watching at home/mobile. Not many would go sit in a stinking stadium like they used to do 10-15 years back. Dissposable incomes have grown multifold  and so have basic expectations.

In a Test I watched at Kotla, so many people moved out after an hour or two because there were bird droppings everywhere on the seats.
