If you considered only top 8 sides, Kohli looks even worse compared to Sachin. We will even go into the kind of bowlers they faced.

In WCs, Kohli 673 runs@42 vs Sachin's 1397 runs@49

In tournament finals, 154 runs@22, vs Sachin's 1627 runs@49

Total tournament knockouts (finals, SFs, QFs), 247 runs@22 vs Sachin's 2130 runs@47

That record will make even a tailender proud. Better player than Kohli, yeah right

Sachin never did well against good bowlers in his career away from home. We know it took 2008 for him to score an away 100 vs Australia  and 2009 vs NZ and He has single away 100s against SENA countries .Kohli pretty much scored  multiple 100s vs every team home and away.

World cups Sachin got more chances as he is an opener otherwise their record is same. Kohli averages 88 in ICC champions trophy  vs 36 for Sachin.

Kohli played very few mutli nation tournaments in his career where as Sachin's career was full of 3 and 4 nation tournaments thats why Sachin has more runs in finals.

Kohli does not need any performance to prove his superiority over Sachin, it is not even a comparision.Sachin is not even in the same ball park as Kohli in odis.

Keep shifting the goalposts. Those WC and numbers in knockouts brutally expose Kohli's ODI stats. Not one good knock in finals even in one bloody tournament.

I have said it before as well on icf ,had sachin played in this era (after 2010) ,he would have averaged in the 50s for sure and striking close to 95 .

This is the most easiest era for odi batsmen, especially openers ! 2 new ball has made it even easier in the middle overs .

Even dhawan is striking close to 95, better then Jayasuriya(91)almost equal to adam Gilchrist.  Gives a clear idea how easy things are now.  Even ponting and Hayden had strike rate of 80.

Player like root is averaging over 50.

Sachin averaged 47.62 @87.81 str:  and scored  16335 runs  once he started to open   till  2011 Mar 30. He scored 48 100s in this phase.

http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/player/35320.html?class=2;spanmax1=30+Mar+2011;spanmin1=27+mar+1994;spanval1=span;template=results;type=batting

Roughly Sachin played thru the 90s & 2000s . 40 avg:  was the yardstick for greatness in 90s . In 2010s it is 50 . So even if 45 is assumed to be the measure of greatness in 2000s, the yard stick to evaluate Sachin would be  (40+45) /2 = 42.5

Based on that Sachin's average in the 2010s would be roughly  47.62*50/42.5 = 56 with str: in the  90s. Add Sachin's vastly superior record in WCs combined with the added pressure of expectations he had to cope up with, Sachin still is the better ODI batsman for me.

Would wait till the next WC to even think of a comparison.

Meh Kohli isn't exceeding SRT, that's straight from the top :om:

The only thing he can do is to lead a better team & hopefully win more series for us away, especially tests in SA, Eng.

Even gobar Azam is averaging 54..... Ever since Rohit started opening aching 55. Warner, root, Taylor all are hovering around 50.
