Earlier teams weren't ruthless enough to smash lallu panju sides.

We used to roll over the goras even the Aussies in late 90s and the English and Nzl used to open the pants for us when ever they toured the SC.

Only team that competed with us is the SA team who have a stellar overseas record till recently. SL has never won a game in India till date  and a lot of those games with them used to be draw because SL was a gun batting side in the mid 90s and early 2000s.

Indian bowling quality has gone up a lot where as the batting quality give or take is the same maybe a little below man to man.

Let this team start winning Overseas in a dominating fashion, well talk. Until then the fab 4-5 team anyday

Few things will decide the outcome of this series

1. Will TM continue to show faith in 3 pacers + 2 spinners formula, with Jadeja batting at 6?
2. Will we pick a specialist keeper in Saha (74 runs in last 4 tests@24, getting demoted below Jadeja to no. 7 now)

3. Will the TM back Rohit as opener if he fails in practice matches? (on two slightly bowler friendly tracks, managed 27 runs vs BD)

4. Will the spin friendly pitch bullIies Ashwin (and Jadeja) finally put in any noteworthy performances with the ball in SENA?
5. Can Mayank Agrawal build on his successes in Australia and bat for a couple of sessions especially in the first test?
6. Can Rahane continue his good form (2 100s and 5 50s in last 10 innings, albeit vs inferior opposition + a higher average than Kohli in Tests won vs SENA+ WI away in last 5 years despite mostly being crap over the last 2-3 years

7. Punjara’s batting form (and not so much Kohli’s own form)

Why do you need two spinners in NZ?

Dropped catches will be costly on day 4/5 pattas. Baz's drop by Super V cost us 293 runs and an easy test win.

There's not a single clip of that dropped catch available anywhere. Have to give it to Super V's PR Team.

Edit : Found it @ 55:00

The TM will certainly back him as opener even if he fails in practice matches.

The first test match vs BD is not in bowling friendly conditions. He threw it with his own recklessness. This is what I dislike about him. I really want him to succeed as a test cricketer but he keeps disappointing me whenever I start trusting him that he found the right temperament. His low score in the first test match is a reflection of his poor temperament than slightly bowler friendly conditions!

Yes, i liked the temperament and application he showed in SA series at start of innings. But against BD he seemed to have lapsed into old style of looking to dominate from get go. He needs to realize in SENA he will have to show continuiys mental toughness in terms of leaving balls outside off and seeing off good spells.

I hope we are playing a test at mount maunganui.  Such a stunning location.

Coming to the conditions, the batters will find it tough in the first session and a half when the moisture aids seam movement. But after that the wicket flattens out and, despite the kookaburra still moving through the air, there's plenty of runs to be had. Last 4 sessions, bit of variable bounce as we saw in the England Vs NZ test yesterday.

Eng/NZ didn't tour much in the 90s.

OK we whitewashed Eng in 93, very good.

But they drew 2 tests in 2001-02, then drew the series in 2006, those were weaker teams than the 2016 one which we blanked 4-0.

NZ drew 2 tests in 1999-00, drew a series in 2003....we whitewashed a much stronger NZ in 2016.

RSA won a test here in 96, whitewashed us in 2000...with no spinner !!! We smashed their still strong team in 2015, ended their unbeaten overseas run.

Aussies you may have a point, we didn't whitewash but that opponent was strong.

So where did we smash the gora teams for fun in 90s?

Regarding Lanka the (3 match) drawn test series in 97 was unacceptable, we failed to finish them twice when we were dominating. Good batting unit yeah sure but what sort of decks we prepared for visitors in that era?

No denying that in Indian conditions Super V's  team is GOAT.

1. Our two tests are in Basin Reserve, Wellington & Hagley Oval Christchurch.

2. Match results for last 5-6 seasons at both grounds shows high probability of result & very little low scores (<150 types) atleast for major test playing nations.

3. Pitches will have something for bowlers on day 1 but don't think they will be green mambas at any time.

4. Matches should last 5 days, and there will be long periods in 2nd & 3rd innings when batters will enjoy, so i think a 5th part-time bowler who can bowl 10-15 overs a day at < 3 rpo will be useful.

5. Gritty middle/lower order batting will be crucial as those players will bat at a time when conditions for batting are best. So having proven batters till 8 will be a plus.

My recommended team - Mayank, Shaw, Pujara, Kohli, Rahane, Vihari, Pant, Ash (has looked more penetrative than Jaddu off late and hoping he relaxes with less expectations from him due to our potent pace battery. Let Kuldeep just play Ranji this season, work on his flipper & googly, and also improve his batting), Ishant, Shami, Bumrah.

What i think Kohli will play - Rohit, Saha, Jaddu instead of Shaw, Pant, Ash

Would definitely be a mouth watering contest. NZ is a very good test side led by an able captain who uses his resources well.
And BJ Watling is criminally underrated, he pulls back his side whenever they're in trouble & he has done that quite a few times. Everyone remembers McCullum's heroics in 2014 against us, BJ supported him ably even during that time building a huge partnership.
