Match Thread : India vs Aus 1st ODI, Wankhade on 14th jan 2020

Recommended Posts

This will  be a good series for India .

Will throw up quite a few things to ponder over , esp. since WC is 3 years away.

   1.   The team with best known members  got beaten badly -  So why not play youngsters and get beaten. At least new members will get exposure .

    2.  How successful teams play in First PP  and how India is playing ?

    3.  Will  Dhawan & Rohit look like maintaining top form till WC23 or  do we need to develop alternatives ? Should Kohli paly at 4 ?

    4.  Should KL if considered in the team to  play as opener or  elsewhere ?

     5.  What Iyer should rectify to be good no.4 player . Should they also be looking at a player who is better vs both spin and pace and less risky in approach ? Can Mayank also fit in at 4 ?

     6.  Who are your NO.5 & no. 6 .

     7. What are the issues with Pant - What needs to be done to get the best out of him. Who should be your alternative WK  contender for WC 23 ?

     8. Who can replace shami  in future .

     9. Should we look at some other spinners ?

     10. Who should be your 2 preferred Death bowlers apart from Bhumra .

In the next 2 years , keep focus on building a new team with mostly only 2 -3 veterans in 15 in WC 23  and try to address these issues .

There should  specific  instructions as to what are the shortcomings in each players, what are the areas to be addressed , and provide special sessions with expert minds in those fields to overcome them .

A 10-15 day session at NCA for all young bats like Shaw , Gill , Pant , KL, Mayank, Iyer , Rururaj with say Sachin / Dravid at NCA  could be something thought of  may be every 6 months  Then putting hardwork is left to players . Whoever improves should be considered . If Shaw wants to go his own way , let him be , loss is his .

Similarly for bowlers  -If saini is not good at death ,Let him practice death bowling skills 5 hours a day for couple of months . Effort should be made by them .

It's not about Pant, KL, Samson, Gill or any player. Kohli can't make up his mind abt his best LOI team for any significant length of time except for select few players he backs - Rohit, Bumrah, Pandya, Dhawan.

If not Pant, pick Samson or even KL as keeper - but tell them what batting role u expect and then blindly back them for 20 matches. Back them vocally, both in private and public...and mean what you say.

If Jaddu's going to be your main spinner/all rounder in both LOI formats, tell him and then play him constantly. A captain's belief can lift players to over-achieve.

Kohli decides one thing and starts having second thoughts soon after. If he believed Rayudu was his no. 4 and Jadhav  No. 6  in WC run up, he should have just played them till the end.

Most players need reassurance, consistent position & role to succeed.

Now this is spot on...this is what it is.

I am not pretending anything. What is it called Player X stinking up in test cricket in five different continents and yet kept on getting chances over much improved youngster who when given a chance at biggest stage cricket plays a vital role in India winning that series.

That young player has not looked back and is averaging 60 in test cricket and still unable to crack the odi team because this player X keeps on getting chances.Kohli is to be blamed to giving too many chances to some player like X.

People like you keep giving excuses for player X.Kohli is the captain for both players.

Players need to take their chances.Captain is not their to baby them every step that too for player who has been playing international cricket since 2014.

As said many times you don't kick out a perfectly good player like Dhawan in odis to try a youngster.Youngster has to show some talent too in spot he is chosen.

It is not that greatness of Imran Khan that Waqar and Wasim came under him ,They made Imran look good not vice verse, what happened to Imran Khan when he was given Jalauddins and Tahir Naqqashs.

Sachin and Sehwag did not make room for Kohli, Kohli when given a chance took it and ran with it and became a vital cog  for Indian team over much senior player like Raina because he was talented .

SUmmary of the garbage you've written as an excuse  : Kohli is not a leader

I predicted this humiliation.

India is genuinely a useless side against strong opposition. A lot of Indian players are extremely overrated and got exposed. They succeed against crap teams, because crap teams cannot take the initiative and consistently strike.

If India were playing SL/WI/Afgh/SA tonight we would have scored 300 and bowled them out for around 250.

There is so many warning signs for India. Their results are not impressive. Each of these garbage teams like SL,WI, Agh and SA could have won their games if they took their chances early.

This may be an ODI in India, but Australia will tear India apart in the test series and the final at Lords.

We have lost all last 3 games played against Strong sides- ENG, Aus, NZ

Correct.

Which is why I was being irritated by the commentators BS of how good India are and how strong their bowling is.

Sure some players can have an off day, but India are just so reliant on Hitman and Kohli to win a game for them against the stronger countries and need Bumrah to be deadly as well.  Rest of the players are just making up numbers and contribute generally little when it gets tough against pure quality.

India must be wishing they were laughing like clowns when beating SL and WI thinking they are good. I knew it was fake wins.

The way Warner is batting , it is a 3-0 bashing on its way .

The funny thing is that ODI is not even his strength. He is a better test opener.

India are going to get blown away, Aust bat deep. They still would have won, even if they lost early wickets. They bat deep.
