Just went through the thread and many who opposed Pant are the same who opposed/oppose SDP, Pujara, and so on

I mean, Pant is a leftie like Gilchrist and Jayasurya and he strikes at a good click, just like those two. So he reminds you of them. :hysterical:

What’s impressive is gilly only had 15 innings. Tells you all you need to know about the quality of their bowling.

And top order batting.. That australian team was genuinely scary all around

Pant should be opening like Gilly. And KLR can bat in middle order if he can up his tempo a bit. and they can rotate keeping duties. Pant has the ability to play long innings at high tempo - a rare skill in cricket. even in ranjis, he made 100s at 100+ SR. If he can bat for 100 balls, he can get us 150-160.

My order is Pant, Shaw/Rohit, Rohit, KLR, SKY/Iyer, Hardik as top 6.

Knowledgeable posters should see the difference in Tests and ODIs and T20s. Pant’s play is best for Test cricket and he has proven his spot. In ODIs and T20s he has not painted the field red as of now, but he is backed because of his Test contribution. Comparing him with Hardik is a joke, he is rightfully dropped. He should be playing domestic cricket to regain his mojo. He is useless if he doesn’t bowl as a 6th bowler in LOIs

In T20s Pant will be competing with Isan Kishan. No reason not to play both. But in the last 2 seasons Pant's strike rate has dropped big time. 113 during 2020 season 128 during 2021 season. Kishan despite poor season showed glimpses of his power this season. Last season was a decent one with a strike rate of 145. Pant can play one dayers. But in T20 his place is not assured yet until he proves he can be a reliable hitter down the order.

he has curbed his natural game too much thanks to loads of unfair criticism from media in the past.
