HE went back in domestic made runs n came back. Now he is playing constantly for India which makes it tough to play ranji . Its not freebie he already showed he can play test cricket - lets not forget he has 100s in Aus, ENG, WI,SL and Home aussie series which was tough batting conditions. Ability was never his issue

On what basis openers averaging 67.08 (Agarwal), (118.5) Shaw and 46.54 (Sharma) should be behind him in pecking order. coz those guys have specially rohit n shaw hasnt opened in tough conditions when they ll do even their avg high chance will crash down

Let them play equal amount of test or atleast have a size of 25-30 games same for Rohit as opener Comparison shud be be done wen we have equal amount of sample size n similar condition what matters is current form, not looking at stats from many years ago. consider the following: In 2017-19, KLR played 14 tests away and has an avg of 25.16 with 1 century (in a match that we were clearly losing in Eng). In 2017-19, Jaddu played 7 tests away and had an avg of 49.85 with several clutch knocks (although no centuries) I am aware that Jaddu is a lower-middle-order player, whereas KLR is an opener. However, using the excuse of bad form does not work when this so-called bad form is across nearly 3 years. In the same period, Mayank has an avg of 39 away (4 tests), and even shikhar dhawan and rohit sharma have slightly better avgs abroad (in 4-5 tests).

Many played have had long bad patches.....someone like an ABDV also avg 35 at similar point of time take rahane for example had 2-3 years of bad patch n had a great last year Dhawan n rohit went slightly ahead of rahul on rahul bad days but thats how bad they were that their good days were only better then someone bad days. When rahul has his good days he has shown what he can do. A player will always be defined on what he does on his good days coz every one will have bad days Even in Rahul bad form he made a 150 in england which is what kohli failed to do in his 1st england tour when he had a horrid time Edited February 2, 2020 by Ankit_sharma03 Kothili 1
putrevus Posted February 2, 2020 Posted February 2, 2020 No need at for him to be in test team.I would rather have Gill in the test team.Rahul had enough chances in test cricket to stink. vaul 1
jusarrived Posted February 2, 2020 Posted February 2, 2020 KLs test career is done for good . It’s difficult for test openers to make a come back once self doubt creeps into their game and it hardly helps with likes of Shastri and Virat at helm who took years to move on from Dhawan and now replace him with Rohit Sharma , both proven failures in Test cricket . In LOIs he just got lucky with few knocks at the right time and other batsmen getting injured . I will be happy if he ends his career as a LOI great . Kothili 1
wanted_desi Posted February 2, 2020 Posted February 2, 2020 Lets not confuse him right now! Maybe in future, there is a place for KL Rahul for test matches.

There is no batsmen who can do well in all three formats from word go as you have to make massive adjustments every time you switch . Virat looked like a tail ender in England against swing , Edwards had him shitting in his pants against short ball in WI and all this when he was already a successful LOI batsmen . The difference is he was still persisted and given time and he eventually figured a way to make the switch . I can’t see any other batsmen apart from Virat do well in all 3 formats , until we get captain with even basic common sense .
test fan Posted February 2, 2020 Posted February 2, 2020 Team asks KL Rahul to open. Team asks KL Rahul to bat 3. Team asks KL Rahul to bat at 4. Team asks KL Rahul to bat at 5. Team asks KL Rahul to keep. Finally :-) Team asks KL Rahul to Lead This man has done everything in the last 9 months. Ab to test team m jagah to Banti h
SK_IH Posted February 2, 2020 Posted February 2, 2020 I think there is no need. Shaw should be the back up opener.
coffee_rules Posted February 2, 2020 Posted February 2, 2020 He should be in the test squad as a backup opener or wicket keeper

putrevus Posted February 2, 2020 Posted February 2, 2020 Rahul if he keeps up his form and keep scoring runs in shorter formats can be Rohit Sharma 2.0 , he will get his chances in test cricket again. That is the advantage which guys like Rohit and Rahul have over others as they are always in limelight.
Lannister Posted February 2, 2020 Posted February 2, 2020 (edited) As Rahul's die-hard fan, I would love to see him in Test cricket again. But it will be unfair on Agarwal and Shaw, who have done nothing wrong so far as Test openers. Maybe he can be in the squad as a backup opener and he's definitely better than Sharma. For now he should just concentrate on LOIs, he modeled his game to suit those two formats. Edited February 2, 2020 by Lannister RAZPOR 1
RAZPOR Posted February 2, 2020 Posted February 2, 2020 seems like rahul can anything now,you just name it and it ll be done Ankit_sharma03 and Param Mastishk Pheeka 2
Param Mastishk Pheeka Posted February 2, 2020 Posted February 2, 2020 (edited) Embarrassment of batting riches! At this time, there is no reason to drop Agarwal and Vihari. After what Rohit did at home, it will be tough to drop him even though everyone knows that he struggles against the moving ball abroad. Rahane, on the other hand, has a reputation as the guy who does better abroad, so they will be hard-pressed to drop him either. Keep Gill and Shaw in the squad as the back-ups for Rahane/Vihari and Rohit, waiting to pounce as soon as one of these guys falters. At this time, India can field 2 solid batting line-ups, maybe even two test XIs that could beat almost anyone else. Edited February 2, 2020 by Param Mastishk Pheeka Ankit_sharma03 1
zen Posted February 2, 2020 Posted February 2, 2020 KL can be tried in place of someone like Vihari .... At #6, you get to face new ball too on many occasions Ankit_sharma03 1
