Also, our speciality to get opposition 150-6/7 only to let the tail wag and add another 150 runs is another dimension. But yeah, I think we would have defended 277 in England in these conditions. I think its more of mental problem then swinging . Post laxman we dont have a 2nd innings specialist Link to comment
Tridibans_16
Also, all of our wins in SENA are while defending targets above 200 (batting first). Adelaide and MCG in Australia 2018-19 Trentbridge in Eng in 2018 J'Burg in SA in 2017-18 Lords in Eng 2014 Durban in SA 2010 P.s- The above are our only wins in SENA in the last decade. A shame really. Link to comment

Our bowling attack is pretty good now if you ask me if india would have chased down 277 I would have said no. Heck we would not have chased anything over 150 Link to comment
singhprakash72
Again go back to 2018 tour on one occasion chasing under 200 1st Test we didn't make it and then again under 250 total failed to win in the 4th Test ...so 9 out of 10 times we would have failed to reach 277 in 4th innings in English condition even with Pak bowling. zen
I guess, we could have made Board and Bess new heros by making Eng chase 300+ Link to comment

Out of this bunch, I expect Shaheen Shah Afridi to be the best and he will be a top line fast bowler in the next decade. Abbas is 1 trick pony as Australia shown us. So in Naseem who has raw pace and bits and pieces if brilliance. The 2000-2010's produced so many "new coming wonders" from Pakiland but almost all disappeared. Shabbir Ahmed, Sami, Umar Gul, Naved Rana, M. Asif (top bloke but disgraced himself), Amir (was slated to be the next Akram)-after his return, only to be a dud who is now out of the test team. I think naseem is the best fast bowling talent i hve seen Disagree on abbas, he gets flak for speed but his strength is his nagging length . In recent times he has struggled but its mostly due to shoulder injury issue which can hamper any bowler even a spinner. He already has done well in UAE, WI kind of place....in places like SA someone like phialnder ruled for years and england is a place for him so he is a bowler ull need in most conditions But apart from these 3 they need a backups which im not sure about. Pak currently is in a problem that we were in 2000s a young fast bowlers comes n looses track lets see how these 2 go. Link to comment
Nikola
But i have trust in our batsman, they would have given eng target of 177 instead of 277. Link to comment

I have my doubts about defending 277. We almost let Aus chase 315 in Adelaide last time around. I think they scored 290+ We couldn’t chase 208 in England last tour. We also couldn’t chase what 130? In 2015 in SL? Gollum 1 Link to comment

They get flat by the 3rd spell of the day ,that's a massive difference between our Pacers, our lot have stamina till the EOD and Can bowl with the same intensity throughout the day Their bowling is certainly over hyped ,its their weaker dept thrse days,Shadab warrants no place in test xi Shaheen,Naseem are too young Shaheen disappointed a lot and trundled throughout Naseem seems to fake his aggression, his bowling is not something which will entice your interest, pak fans run the hype train in supersonic speeds Edited August 8, 2020 by Suhaan saik 1 Link to comment

Its a self-serving mythology. Although to be fair, both Naseem and Shaheen are very promising players to have in a team. Especially a quality tall left-armer. Link to comment

A hard ball coming at your head/throat at 90MPH delivered with absolute precision by a world class athlete is not a myth. And after losing the druggie matchfixer Asif, Pakistani phast bowling was rank pedestrian for almost the entire decade, especially in test cricket. 1 or 2 years or season could be an aberration, not an entire decade. Both were never 90mph bowlers. I was referring to the fact about the myth of having real fast bowlers is not really an advantage. Link to comment

I dont remember any in the last couple of decade l Posted already in other thread: I think India as per my knowledge has not lost any match where opponent had to score more than 250 in last innings for more than 35 years.. i think if my memory serves right the only 200 plus chase against India in 4 th innings was by South Africa in 2007 final test ( Dada comeback series). Other tests where Opponents won against India chasing a decent score was South Africa ( Boucher) in 2001/2 (tendulkars last test series as captain) 160 odd and NZ in the famous souped up pitch series of 2002 (again 160 odd). The only time India came close to losing a match while giving a decent 4 th innings chase to an opponent was the Joberg test where Faf du plessis nearly pulled it off chasing 400+ .. and the Adelaide test last year..
