nevada Posted September 2, 2020 Posted September 2, 2020 While Rahane couldn't have been any worse than the picked options, the problem was that the big 3 dominated proceedings way too much, with other batters hardly getting a hit. This had been going on for years and was gonna cost us sooner or later.Even Rahane also would have been undercooked and either perished cheaply or plodded around for a 70 ball 38 before holing out to mid off. Straight Drive Posted September 2, 2020 Posted September 2, 2020 With strike rate of 78.63 after playing 90 matches in modern era, he is below par imo. Considering his average is 35.26 that SR should be way higher than what it is. There should not be a place for someone with avg 35 and sr 78 in Indian top 6. Gollum 1

Dravid's strikerate from two decades ago looks superb in comparison.
zen Posted September 2, 2020 Posted September 2, 2020 Rahane/Rayudu if he had played could have run out Dhoni and Jadeja, and then got out .... NZ would have won by a larger margin .... The blame would have shifted on him rather than others nevada 1

This is what bothers me the most. The arrogance and audacity of Kohli to think he knows more than me lol. Seriously though, as you said if the Top 3 players were consistently getting runs in meaningless tournaments, why persist with this?? ndia should have mapped out a plan where all Top 3 were rested so the middle order would need to perform to win games. Bringing in thee new young Top 3 players two openers and a new batsmen at 3, would allow the middle order to show what it can do consistently. I hated seeing Kohli and Hitman score mindless centuries when it doesnt count. For the betterment of Indian cricket they could have retired even after scoring 50 runs to give the rest of the middle order a chance to bat and win the game for India. nevada 1
SRT100 Posted September 3, 2020 Posted September 3, 2020 Rahane in English conditions would have been a better bet than what we played with. In India he would have been useless. You need to pick the players also according to the conditions.

Please get out of this fallacy about Rahane & supposed better option in tough or English conditions. He cannot survive those conditions like others & there are plenty of examples as @Ankit_sharma03 already pointed out. This guy has created a notion among certain fans about being a batsman for tough conditions without doing anything, just like he is the self-entitled heir to Dravid-Laxman for the middle order slot. I think it's time Indian cricket is not fooled anymore by this phoney. Gollum, zen, Stan AF and 2 others 1 4

Even Dravid, though he played more than a decade back, was being said to have low strike rate and his survival happened because he opted to keep. As a specialist batsman, Dravid with that average in those years was also under pressure ot maintain place in squad with likes of Sehwag, sachin, Yuvi, Raina and Dhoni scoring at better strike rate than him.

Dravid post 1999 NZ tour, till circa 2007 was a gun ODI batsman. What he did in 1999 WC, many so called ODI ATGs will do well to achieve 80% of that once in their career. He was consistently among top 3 picks in the XI in that period. He kept in 2003 WC as a favor to the team, for better balance. Who was the other keeper that time? Ratra, Dighe or Deep Dasgupta?, Edited September 3, 2020 by Gollum SK_IH 1

Wrong chronology, he was dropped from ODI due to SR issues in the 97-98 timeframe. He made a comeback in '99 without being a wickkeeper and was the top ODI batsman. He averaged 46.xx in that year and from then on for next three years he averaged 35, 43 and 38, and could have held his place as a batsman alone. Later, when the team balance was perfect with hi as a wkt-keeper where Ganguly could add another bowler or allrounder , he oblidged to keep. I don't think he kept his place as a wkt keeper only. This was around '02 timeframe in the WI series in WI , when he became a wicket-keeper regular. Check the Natwest final win in 2002, he was a wicket-keeper and we could play an extra batsman Dinesh Mongia, we chased 325.

I think it's time Indian cricket is not fooled anymore by this phoney. Biggest phoney in the history of Indian cricket, even I used to be in his camp till 2 years back and was aghast when they left him out of 1st 2 tests in RSA. Used to rate him above Kohli the test batsman before 2016-17 season. Have no hesitation to say that among players (TM, skipper, selectors, BCCI need separate discussion) he alone is holding us back from attaining our full potential. 90 ODIs wasted on him, had they given half that much exposure to KL/Iyer we could have won the WC. And 65 tests while Gill can't seem to break in, dropped Nair for him after that epic 300. Him and Asad Shafiq belong to a special category. Gollum Posted September 3, 2020 Posted September 3, 2020 (edited) Rahane has played just 20 T20s, avg 20, SR 113, but he was in the XI in 2014 WT20 SF/F and 2016 WT20 SF. His output 32(30) chasing 174 against RSA 3(8) in a freaking final....all remember Yuvi that day, not so much this guy 40(36) against WI and then claiming mid-innings that 160 was winning score in those conditions (against red hot WI which had Sammy at #8 and Brathwaite at #9, Wankhede patta, dew) His entitlement though. Ankit_sharma03 Posted September 3, 2020 Posted September 3, 2020 The only time ill ever consider rahane in ODI is if we play against Sa coz he always bats well against them but now even they are so weak that rahane is not important

I don't know how you rated this phoney, 1 innings per tour was his threshold, however he was the supposed messiah abroad. His best was always mediocre at best. And obviously the phoney struggled against spinners at home lol.I ll be honest if Rohit was given consecutive 65 tests he would have had solid numbers by now. I ll not go into the ODI & T20s bit, those as you stated resulted in better players getting sidelined to Indian cricket's detriment. Gollum 1

aditya19 Posted September 4, 2020 Posted September 4, 2020 he is saying that because 200-250 kind of scores are right up his alley. even jadeja loves chasing scores like that that why he did so good in that match. rahane has failed to develop as an overseas specialist bat and his home record is dismal.

I think his strike rate was less by 5 or more runs as compared to Sehwag, Sachin,Raina,Yuvi,Dhoni etc who were mainstays in the team.
