@Singh blingStop this singling out BJP for one crime in a BJP ruled state. This is selectivism, activism based on who is ruling the state. There have been many rapes in WB, elsewhere, which is a tragedy of highest proportion. It has to be dealt with a decisive action, 4 culprits have been nabbed before the report is out. Meanwhile, Police in MH are still trying to find out who killed the sadhus which has been recorded on phone.  For these politicians and journalists only Dalit and Minority victims matter, only in BJP ruled states. Rest of them are mere crime stats.

Horrible, if police were involved in hiding the crime.

I am not singling out BJP . The forcible cremation is something that UP government is fully responsible.  What was need of police forcibly taking body  and cremating without family.

Horrible tragedy and atrocious handling by authorities. Unless BJP wanted to manage the headlines and move focus from SSR CBI screwups or Farmers agitation, I don’t see any reason why the authorities hurriedly cremates the body last night.

As it’s a BJP ruled state and Yogi is always monitored by activists (they don’t even know a similar case in Rajasthan), Yogi might as well follow the TRS way and encounter the accused on the site inspection night.

The accused were arrested.

The police must have forced them to cremate and not use the body for dharna .

What is the logic behind not cremating the body after postmortem? Let political parties play politics over the horrible crime.

PM  this time has chosen to take the initiative to talk to Yogi regarding this.

Hathras gang rape: Victim cremated, accused arrested. All you need to know about the case

Te cremation was not forced, but it was done with the consent of the father. Political activists wanted the body to be displayed for Dharna as the death had occurred more than 24 hours earlier. Accused are arrested, Fast Track court set up, 10 lakhs ex-gratia given to the family, PM spoke to CM. All has happened. Meanwhile Sadhu killers are roaming around free in MH.

What right does the govt have to decide what the family can or cannot do with the body?  If the family did not want the body cremated right away, its up to them.  The police has no business forcing them to do so.

I am no fan of using dead bodies for 'dharna' etc, but thats not the point.  What's wrong is wrong.  If you start justifying the police trampling on citizen's right under "ends justify the means" you end up with a dictatorship.

Which family do cremation at night?

And just switch on tv channels and see all family members are saying they forcibly cremated body. And if opposition wants to do dharna let them do. Why yogi Government is afraid? Fear of opposition is no excuse to cremate victim forcibly without proper religious rights.

Fair enough. Police excesses happen like this all over India. There has been a SIT created to look into this issue, it is not as if there is inaction. They have to be brought to justice. There are reports of the father's consent, maybe he was bought. So, that is possible.  Father and Son in TN died in custody for violating lockdown rules.

Very sad and unfortunate. Accused arrested. Looks like The police pleaded with family to cremate the poor body. Not sure if they agreed or Not.
Justice will be done. Opportunity to do politics missed.

Just remember, Amnesty International office was closed a day back. They desperately want instant show of strength.

It's not police excess. Police generally do excess either to show power or to take bribe. Here the case was already in media and police had nothing to gain or loose from cremation. It was clear that they were instructed by state government to do cremation by hook or crook quickly . It looks that Yogi Government was afraid of protests. It is clear self goal by UP government.

There was a recent case of similar incident in Rajasthan but it received no coverage. It’s quite clear what is being attempted here, especially with the UP elections in less than 2 years. Very sad that such crimes are being politicized by the OP.

PS- it’s the police’s job to maintain law and order. If such unfortunate event were to happen during protests by troublemakers, same OP would blame govt for not having anticipated such events and taking pre-emptive actions.

WTF does mean when they tell family ki galti to aap se bhi hui hai ? Konsi galti

This is some courageous and brave reporting, unlike shouting from some studio and running hashtags. Hats off to this lady Tanushree Pandey.

The less said about our police force the better. What a disgrace.
