Got a quality hundred against New Zealand under high pressure, 90 odd against Ban and a whole lot of 60s and 70s. Only game he failed was against Windies where poyzz imploded. Ofcourse, it was tough for Kohli to get big scores coming in regularly at 130/1 and he was more than happy to play second fiddle to Rohit at the other end. No he did not, Kohli did not have chance to do better because Rohit and Dhawan were doing all the bulk scoring. So this is utter nonsense that Babar did well than Kohli. Babar is nice little batsman for Pakistan but to put him in the same sentence with Kohli in anything is ridiculous. raki05 1
G_B_ Posted November 5, 2020 Author Posted November 5, 2020 That hundred v NZ they were chasing 237 odd. I.e the Pakistani bowlers had delivered. Babar Azam average also got boosted due to being not out. In clutch games like say v Australia he got himself in and got out. It was same vs India. Pakistan were like 117/1 with Azam well set and he threw it away. so when the bowlers did not deliver (like v India or Aus) he failed to take his team over the line despite being set. Nobody is doubting his quality. But he lacks that killer instinct. Thats the point. Even in this series. When Pak bowlers sort of semi failed, Azam failed to drag it back despite being in touching distance. Generally I notice he tends to cash in when the targets are low while chasing.
Sandeep99 Posted November 6, 2020 Posted November 6, 2020 Lack of confidence and fear of loss. Has both the qualities and hence can be called a choker.
Sandeep99 Posted November 6, 2020 Posted November 6, 2020 (edited) Luckily for Azam, his bowlers generally deliver good more often than not against moderate oppositions. Hence he is asked to chase totals of 230-260. However, when he's chasing more than 270/280, he becomes a liability (think Rahane). Solid no doubt but doesn't have killer instinct like many here have pointed. He needs to have some ex factor players around him to create an impact for Pakistan. Sean Bradley Posted November 6, 2020 Posted November 6, 2020 He is at par with Rahane right now, not in the League of Kohli, Smith yet. If he works on his game further, he will be greatest bat from Pak, if not he will be a Pak great below Saeed Anwar, Youhanna etc.

Ankit_sharma03 Posted November 17, 2020 Posted November 17, 2020 he performs in final and wins his team PSL, i still keep wondering how ppl call someone mental midgets .
ShoonyaSifar Posted November 18, 2020 Posted November 18, 2020 The most un-Pakistani batsman I have seen from the other side of the border. His overall batting approach looks very Indianesque as if he has been groomed and coached under our batting coaches. And looks to be a likeable character as well. The best young batting talent in the world right now and pushing close to being in the Fab Four

That is why he is a finished article like we see with Indian batsmen. Normally Pakistanis sees some jazba and picks non nurtured talented kids from street and expect them to succeed in internationals. It works on rare occasions but mostly fails. Babar is a rarity who has come from the system properly groomed.
ShoonyaSifar Posted November 18, 2020 Posted November 18, 2020 During 2011-12, three young batsmen were dominating u-19 batting charts - Babar Azam, Quinton De Cock and Unmukt Chand. The other two are leading their sides in international cricket now while Unmukt has been lost, primarily due to his own lack of focus and getting struck by stardom.

His stroke play may even put some of our current Indian batsman pale in comparison The way he plays square cut vs pace is almost as pure as the SRT one. On the contrary Rahul tries to muscle them every time. Kohli has no control so he rarely plays them. Babar is stylish to watch no doubt about it.
raki05 Posted November 19, 2020 Posted November 19, 2020 Ok let me remember, since his debut other than that nz match in wc ( where harris also made 88) how many matches which he played against decent opponent where he looks like winning it for pak but couldn't win because of mediocre batsmen around him. Actually that's the excuse which paxtani give while hyping him. I mean he is good batsmen as per pakistani standard in odi but even tulla fakhar and budhau hafeez has won more matches then him ever since babar azam debut that to single handedly. He is decent accumulator but he can't win you matches ,he is exact replica of amla in odi they both are overhyped in odi. Test he has started performing well in past few year but still just have one century in sena which even yasir shah have in the same match ... maniac 1

raki05 Posted November 21, 2020 Posted November 21, 2020 Paxtani hype Machine on a different level. They are already considering barber azam as greatest paxtani batsmen ahead of inzi, Yusuf and miadad. But they keep Kohli on par with Yusuf and miadad, inzi, yunus ahead of him.
