Ajinkya Rahane- the worst Indian batsman to have played 65 tests

Our overseas specialist, this is the guy who averaged 50 overseas after the completion of first tour. 

 

He gets to bat at the easiest batting conditions and still doesn't score enough. The worst investment of all-time. 

 

I will let this thread do the talking as I guess a lot of us are equally frustrated on Rahane. If he has any shame, he must hit atleast two centuries in this series.

Ganguly is a rich man's Rahane.

From Aus series in 1998 and SA series in 2007, Ganguly averaged 37 in 74 tests and remained captain for long term.

Rahane averages 37 minus minnows.

Ganguly had the added responsibility of captaincy and he opened in ODIs too apart from being a left hander. With rahane, he can't even  be adequate  in the lone discipline he is operating on.

But in tests he wasn't exactly better batsman than Rahane.

 

Came at similar position after ATG Indian batsmen.

 

Apart from 144 at Gaba, didn't have many 100s to remember.

Rahane has been living off that 1 hundred in lords in his entire career.

 

Has done nothing.

 

Even the other matches he has scored overseas the series result has been loss.

 

Mediocre at best.

 

If Rohit Sharma was given the same backing he would be on par with V Kohli in Test Cricket.

Most importantly India won Match and drew test series. Sachin and David scored hundreds on the same inning that match also.

he took upon himself a lot of captaincy pressure so that others can  play with out bothering much about those aspects. Similarly he was a lot better at developing  the team  .

If he was the current  captain Pujara and Rahane wouldn't have been playing by now. Also him being a left hander added lot more variety to the batting line up.

May or perhaps they'd have done better? Name one major batter developing under Kohli, the issue is him as far as I'm concerned.

Well the fact that ganguly was a  odi legend and had to play tons of odi matches along with test meant he had a more hectic schedule and had switch quickly to the other format  .

Also the added pressure of captaincy .

It's like those Cook vs sachin comparison in mid 2015, sachin had played an extra 350 odi matches over cook ,doesnt it mean anything ,cook had the similar luxury as rahane

yeah ..... he gave an opinion like that  being a 3rd person...  but he wouldn't have  tolerated a non performer for long if he himself was the captain.He would have tried Pujara  a lot earlier and if that failed, would have kicked him out. but with this TM non performers can keep on playing in the team....

you were  saying that Rahane was  no lesser a batsman compared to Sourav.  Sourav averaged almost same despite having added pressures . And him being a left hander , right handed batsman at the other end crease too could benefit.
