We also had Bruce Reid as a bowling consultant on the 2003-04 Aus tour. Our young bowlers benefitted immensely from his local knowledge and inputs. But then for some reason, we stopped that practice. 

 

In fact earlier legends like Gavaskar helped struggling players on the tour. That also gradually stopped under Dhoni and has come to a complete halt under Kohli-Shastri. Imagine our young batsmen having Michael Hussey as a batting consultant on the tour or younger bowlers working with McGrath. We pay 3.5 frikking crores to a joke like Sridhar. Spending $75-100k hiring such greats should be a no brainer but then Kohli-Shastri have more faith in Vikram Rathore and Bharat Arun

Even weaker boards like BCB and SLC hire better coaches. BD had guys like Vettori, Vaas, Walsh a couple of years back while SL had Donald. Only in India do we pay jokers like Shastri and Sridhar millions of $ with zero accountability. Kohli's legacy.

This means Kallis will travel to India with this English side. Andy Flower was instrumental in their 2012 win, and Kallis averages what 80 in India? They'll come well prepared and here a joker like Rathour will sit and massage Kohli's legs. If we had to hire an Indian batting coach why not Amre who is well regarded in coaching circles?

Not Kohli's legacy.  BCCI's legacy.  Kohli is a player.  If the board had some courage, they would not let a single player dictate terms.  

 

What will happen if BCCI puts its foot down after the Aus tour and tells Kohli to decide whether it is more important for him to be in the scheme of things or protect the current coaching staff?  One or the other.

Kallis will aid them in India as well.  English batting anyway is very strong & they did well in 2016 as well.  Bairstow is being backed as well & he is a dangerous FTB & with fast Indian outfields the likes of Stokes & Buttler can cause carnage.  If Root wins the tosses again this will be a nail biter for sure & I am backing them to run us close in the D/N test.  Archer Wood & Jimmy can be handful with Pink ball. 

My prediction is a close 2-1 victory to India.

What is the problem though ? Rathour has coaching credentials. How many teams did Kallis coach ?  Also great cricketer doesn't mean a great coach.  Or is he is Gora so he is better than Indian ?

What coaching credentials does Rathour have? You can make an argument for Amre who is a well renowned batting coach. 

 

Kallis has been coach before, KKR head coach, RSA batting coach. Plus his experience in tackling SC conditions, will be well respected because of his stature.

They are already winning the D/N test. Our bowlers will do just fine but expect Rahane and co to gift Broad/Anderson their 1st 4fers in India, lowest total in India under threat!!!! Effectively a 3 test series with us 0-1 down, if they win the remaining 3 tosses will be a nail-biter, a guy like Stokes can do KP 186 and run away with a match.

Rathour coached state teams like Himachal and Punjab.  IPL coaching experience is hardly anything. Atleast rathour coached teams for first class matches.

Ok let us wait and see what he does. 6 innings for Team India without a 250 score. Sridhar got 6 years to fix our fielding/catching and we have reached rock bottom, hope there is more accountability moving forward.

We also had a sports psychologist Sandy Gordon to help us out with the mental part then. Later in the Kirsten era we had Paddy Upton as mental conditioning coach. During the 2010-11 RSA tour and 2011 WC we had that famous adventurer/explorer Mike Horn assisting us, players like Sachin, Yuvi, Zak, Bhajji were on record praising his work in team building and motivational sessions. Horn was later part of the 2014 FIFA WC winning German squad and praised a lot by their stars, now that is some resume.  

 

God knows why world's richest board has stopped appointing mental conditioning coaches for Team India considering our non-stop choking in ICC KOs and failure under pressure like 4th innings chases, overseas assignments etc.
