Samcric Posted February 7, 2021 Posted February 7, 2021 (edited) Scenario 1: Ashwin & Sundar bat close to 2 sessions, India adds 150 runs India 1st Innings: 407, trail by 171 runs, Eng 2nd Innings: bat 35 overs, add 160 runs, Ind 2nd Innings: Target of 331 runs from ~85 overs on Day 5 morning Scenario 2: India bat 40 overs, add 100 runs India 1st Innings: 357, trail by 221 runs, Eng 2nd Innings: bat 40 overs, add 170 runs. Ind 2nd Innings: Target of 391 runs from ~100 overs late on Day 4 Scenario 3: India bat 20 overs, add 50 runs India 1st Innings: 307, trail by 271 runs, Eng 2nd Innings: bat 45 overs, add 180 runs. Ind 2nd Innings: Target of 451 runs from ~115 overs just after Tea on Day 4 Bottom line - every additional 10 overs that India can bat on Day 4 morning, it increases their chances of a draw on Day 5 drastically. And who knows - if England set a reasonable target in order to push for a win, Pant may sparkle for the 3rd time in 3 tests! SrinjayDutta Posted February 7, 2021 Posted February 7, 2021 (edited) very well put. India needs to bat least 30 overs tomorrow for any chance of draw. Edited February 7, 2021 by SrinjayDutta Forward Defence 1
urbestfriend Posted February 7, 2021 Posted February 7, 2021 I think india will bat through first session tomorrow, giving around 250 lead to England. England will score quickly adding another 175 runs in 1.5 sessions, giving India to bat for 10 overs. India will have to bat out 5th day, which is possible if the pitch behaves well. But I am not sure that'll happen.
nevada Posted February 7, 2021 Posted February 7, 2021 Scenario 1 would be ideal but 150 runs might prove to be too much. After Ash and Sundar, we have no batting. Ishanth can stonewall for a bit but hardly troubles the scorers. First goal is survival against new ball and then take it from there.
Norman Posted February 7, 2021 Posted February 7, 2021 If these two at the crease don't play any stupid shots (like the one Sundar played against Leach that Archer dropped), then I think we'll play atleast a session tomorrow and score close to 350. Keep in mind that our tail can hang around at home in these slow/low conditions. I think Ishant, Nadeem and Bumrah will/can block atleast 10 overs combined. Then England will bat until there are 10 overs remaining in the day and set a target of 420+. If both the openers survive that mini session, then we can draw this quite easily and who knows...if the wicket plays well, we may even.... you know ;) SrinjayDutta 1
nitinbwj Posted February 7, 2021 Posted February 7, 2021 Eng won’t give any target less than 450. Scenario 3 looks the most probable.

Yoda-esque Posted February 7, 2021 Posted February 7, 2021 India will last for 10-15 overs max and be all out for 270 thereabouts.England will bat till just before with a lead of 450 thereabouts.India will be 3/80 or something by end of days play Banton, nitinbwj and Frustrated 1 1 1
neel roy Posted February 7, 2021 Posted February 7, 2021 India will bat 45 overs and end at 385/ 400. England with a lead of 180 would try to reach 375 ie 195 more runs. It ll take 50 overs. India will be given 85 overs to chase 375 which India will bail our from as it is too steep. Things starts happening in chennai in day 5! We all know that..

If he survives 50-60 balls, that's around 10 less overs to face on day 5. nevada 1
bowl_out Posted February 7, 2021 Posted February 7, 2021 Sundar gets 100 and Ash gets 70. India score 477 and trail by 100 England roll out for 140. India have 2.5 sessions to get 241 and score it with 4 overs left. GeeGaw, nevada and nitinbwj 2 1

HouMac Posted February 7, 2021 Posted February 7, 2021 As long as India can bat out 1 session tomorrow, they have a good shot at drawing this Test. Given what happened in Australia, England won't feel comfortable setting anything less than 450 to chase. That means they'll bat most of Day 4. India can survive 1 day.
