We have to stop giving the toss excuse.

The wicket was pretty good during our first innings and we should have easily got 500+ and shut the game there and then. England were the better team irrespective of the toss and Loduli helped them with bizarre selections and tactics...

We lost the match when we allowed them to cross 550. They played the game fantastically by batting for almost 7 sessions. Scoring 500 in 3rd and 4th day pitch is not easy.

Cant fault any of the bowlers except No ball Nadeem.

But then again in elite sport you can't field 10 players against 11 and expect to get away with it.

Won't matter man if we lose the toss. The story will be the same.

Another Joe Root daddy 100, buttler and stokes will be chipping in with the bat and archer/stokes and bess claiming it with the ball.

We've got to get hardik back into the side in place of Rahane  and kuly in place of nadeem .This timid approach of blocking and playing safe wont work against england.

Kohli also has to trust our Pacers, bumrah and ishant are world class ,why does he only persist with spinners .

I think he needs to balance the bowling between spin and pace ,ashwin ,bumrah ,ishant, kuly are more than capable of picking 20 english wkts cheaply .

I’m sorry I don’t agree. I’ve seen Ishant bowling in first innings, especially first day. Most of the balls were easy for the batsmen to either leave or had enough time to play (because of the ball pitching short of good length).

We probably list match itself on first day when couldn’t take more than 3 wickets in the whole day...

it was a deadly combination of clueless dejection, captaincy, easy going bowling, Determined English batsmen & a pathetic Chennai pitch...

Good that match at Chepauk dustbowl is over and out of the way. India might win on other pitches now.

Indias strength is its bowling (which never allowed Aussies to score high) and it was screwed up by bringing Ishu and Nadeem along with an egoistic absolute brainless captain.

The pitch was playing fine till mid of day 4.

I already said in the match thread ,our biggest mistake was to gift cheap wkts to Bess and co in the first innings ,that first innings had 400+ written all over it but for silly shots by pant, rahane and bad luck for pujara .

We should have batted at least 110-120 overs and got to 400

Yep. VC will never be dropped. Sigh. Too much politics in India.
Why not make him captain then? He won a big series for us in Australia. Let Kohli's bat talk.

I think the second test match is also in Chepauk

Prepare rank turner and trust your spin playing ability.these type pitches gives huge  advantage to batting first team.

No man, our guys are not good enough vs spin. 15 years ago it would have worked. The pitch needs bounce that our bowlers can make use of, and trust our bounce playing really... and our bowling unit to out bowl theirs.

Agree- but dont see how the selections of Ishant and Nadeem could have changed... Nadeem certainly given injuries we had no option...sadly his test career seems all but finished. And Ishant despite being rusty has to play for me when he is fit, bit rusty in first innings but overall bowled well...

Prepare a flat rank turner.

The Cons: The only negative is that English spinners will come into play, but Bess is an inconsistent part-timer at best. Leach is one dimensional.

The advantages: Our spinners will come into play, Ashwin supported effectively by two others. Unlike England with only two,  work load is better divided in the Indian bowling unit.

Negates Anderson/Broad/Archer.

India should then rest Bumrah, Nadeem and play Thakur, Axar Patel.

Bumrah needs the rest with two more tests to follow, or we will break him. Adding Thakur & Axar will strengthen India's batting with 10 batsmen, a huge advantage on a turning track. Thakur knows Indian conditions, produces some swing and bowls effective cutters. Ishanth and Bumrah are both hit the deck bowlers.

Will give Rohit one more game as he is a useful bowler on a turning track (especially is Ashwin breaks mid game). The only question is Pant's keeping on a rank turner.

Mayank/Rohit

Gill

Pujara

Virat

Rahane

Pant?

Sundar

Thakur

Ashwin

Axar

Ishant

Shami and umesh are massive losses , siraj is a must. Right now its a 2 bowler attack.

With shami umesh and jaddu there was no breathing space for opposition .

Kohli just doesnt learn about conditions based players. Ishant is brilliant outside india with kookabura n duke but SG and these pitches dont suit him much unless its pink ball.

I don't know why people are fearing a Rank Turner.  Play your best players of spin..  Gill Mayank Sundar Pant & heck even Hardik & then witness 3-1.

Leach & Bess aren't that better either.  We need better team selections next game.  But won't happen.  I am confused.

Coz rank turners and green mambsa are like lotteries. Such pitches can make someones like michael clarke and stuart binny unplayable. We have dug that hole for ourself in past

Rahane won't be dropped realistically and I would still give Rohit the next game. I think we should also pick an extra batsman and go for a 2 + 2 attack - I know we don't like to do this at home or even away now but it seems it's needed. Especially as I  would like to see rank turners in the next game that turn from day 1, taking toss out of equation. Lets see how they handle that. 2 quality spinners are enough on a raging turner, even Ashwin himself can take them. No point adding another spinner for the sake of it...Sundar is a potential batting all rounder but right now for me he doesn't fit into the team and I would like to see Rahul get a chance. If Axar is fit I would consider playing him in place of Rahul as his bowling is more lethal and also he can bat.

Rohit, Gill, Puj, Kohli, Rahane, KL Rahul, Pant, Ashwin, Kuldeep, Ishant, Bumrah.

Umesh and Shami are best fast bowlers at home as they are skiddy in nature.Thakur is best replacement for them as he has lower release point hence skiddy .Ishant is useless bowler unless there is extra pace on wicket.
