Even the first India Australia Test ended within 3 days

Think it ended within 8 sessions.

Nobody was complaining that time.

Now many are saying that every Test Match should reach Day 5.

Yeah this test got over too soon but 3 day tests are common. Curators cannot prepare flat tracks to compensate for the lack of skills of the visiting team so that the every match enters Day 5.

The comparison will hold true to some extent if Kohli or any other part timer bowling seam up would have taken a 5-er at Adelaide. There was no excessive grass or no exaggerated movement or uneven bounce in the pitch. In fact when we started batting after a lead of 50+, the pitch looked best to bat on

Here at Motera, we had multiple deliveries exploding off the surface on day 1

Joe Root is not bad for part timer. He is very much like Clarke or Sehwag. What happened to Root in second innings difference is he was facing lefthanders and tailenders in first innings. So stop acting as if Root cleaned up Indian batting lineup. Spinning pitches which turn from ball one will explode from surface. Unless there was uneven bounce or cracks, there is nothing wrong with the pitch. Do we want to prepare pitches like this very tour answer is no.When push comes to shove Indian will always reply on spinning wickets at home.

My theory is that the pink ball accentuates any kind of bowling or batting opportunities in the surface. When you say there was no excessive grass, you are thinking how a red ball would behave but a pink ball is more like a ball on steroids and it makes the less grass pitch look like a green mamba. If you recall that match, we didnt get 36 ao in the night conditions. It was a bright sunny day with no clouds on and the ball was zipping through.

This match didn't have the surface conditions too dissimilar from the 2nd test in Chennai. Pink ball made it worse. Root said the same thing it in the interview.

Only one innings was where a side capitulated and that was mainly due to pretty great bowling and rotten luck and nothing to do with the pitch being unplayable.... Ludicrous comparison

Did 36 all out make for great viewing. All I remember how people were praising Australia and no one was even talking about ball light and pitch. But when spinners take wickets all of sudden it becomes bad pitch. Why should Indian pitches look like Australian or English pitches.

The pink ball had something to do with it also.

Excellent post by Kohli.

That was only one innings, though, all 3 other innings were decent, and India even took a lead in first innings

Bangladesh and Afghanistan lost test in 2days did anyone blame pitches. England is no better than them on these wickets. India if it was batting first and were rolled over cheaply in first innings would have done lot better, the same Joe Root was smashed in second innings. Mind you India lost 7 wickets for 45 in the morning and scored 49/0 in second innings against same two bowlers.Indian batsmen made lot of mistake in first innings. It was not all about pitch.

So to blame pitch completely is wrong. England are awful .

I would take this pitch over first test pitch anyday. Toss was most important thing in first test. Here Toss did not matter, England came back into the match.

It was made to look decent because the batsmen were decent vs pace.

Batsmen of England suck vs spin. So it was 'made' to look worse.

I would have bought this argument if India had scored 350. I have never enjoyed garbage we get in SA or used to get in NZ. This was a **** pitch and win feels hollow.

Agree, but even on decent  Indian pitch , India with all their Fab4 against SA got all out for 76 in  20 overs and on the same pitch  SA scored 500. So was that pitch bad or Indian batting useless. Point being just because India were all out for 145 , it does not become a bad pitch.

I mentioned the same point in the rona dhona thread. There was no criticism or skepticism whatsoever when the Adelaide disaster occurred. It was all praise for the outstanding Aussies. Now our bowlers have done the same but are somehow unfit for praise? A spinning pitch tests the skills of batsmen. There is no threat to life and limb. Unlike the Aussies, we didn't do bodyline or break the opposition's main bowlers limbs to put them out of commission for months. And it's not like our batsmen didn't struggle on this pitch either. It took skill and hard work to get us over the line and the effort deserves praise, not ridicule.

I just cannot recollect the game you have mentioned. One wants to see bat and ball contest, host should have home advantage but I dont think this is the way to go specially when we finally have a team which can beat England on most surfaces across world. India can beat this english side in aus, sa and wi. England and NZ are the only two places where current england team would go as fav. We are a good side, our wtc points say so, we can certainly do with better tracks

Because comparing one bad innings when 3 innings where normal, with a pitch where a match lasted the shortest since world War 2, is stupid

And their effort is not getting praise because joe freaking root took 5 for 8 on same pitch. Does he also deserve praise?

Dude this was the shortest game ever played since world War 2. You can try all the mental gymnastics you want  and but if root take 5 for 8, you know it was the pitch

Guys remember the n.z pitch in 02 when we travelled anyone? We got wrecked by Shane Bondy and stuff.

during bond days, it was hard when they prepared green seamers and won tosses every time.

Scores we like 99 93.
