WTC is not relevant you mean?

Just look at the august company Pujara is in with your cherry picked stats. Joe Denly, Dom Sibley, Shan Masood.... Looks to me like the worst team of the decade in the making.

Buddy, this is not a thread on WTC but SENA where fans are proud of great performances in Aus in 2018/9 and 2020/1 ... There is no point in trying to divert the topic ... If you are interested in WTC, below is the SENA stats from it (though not a part of the topic):

In top order:

Primary team India
Opposition team Australia  or England  or New Zealand  or South Africa
Home or away away (home of opposition)
Trophy ICC World Test Championship
Batting position between 1 and 3
Ordered by batting average (descending)

Overall figures
Player Mat Inns NO Runs HS Ave BF SR 100 50 0 4s 6s
Shubman Gill 3 6 1 259 91 51.80 427 60.65 0 2 0 36 2
CA Pujara 6 11 0 371 77 33.72 1271 29.18 0 4 0 38 0
RG Sharma 2 4 0 129 52 32.25 270 47.77 0 1 0 15 2

JJ Bumrah 1 1 0 2 2 2.00 17 11.76 0 0 0 0 0

In the middle order:

Primary team India
Opposition team Australia  or England  or New Zealand  or South Africa
Home or away away (home of opposition)
Trophy ICC World Test Championship
Batting position between 4 and 7
Ordered by batting average (descending)

UT Yadav 1 1 0 1 1 1.00 12 8.33 0 0 0 0 0
CA Pujara 1 1 0 0 0 0.00 8 0.00 0 0 1 0 0

Talking about the 3 experienced batsmen in WTC in SENA:

  • Pujara has 4 50+ scores in 11 innings in the difficult top order ... including 3 50s in 4 innings at SCG and Gabba :hatsoff:
  • In the MO, Kohli has 1 in 6 innings and Rahane has only 1 50+ score in 12 innings

Thank you for bringing this point as now we can see how Pujara has done well in WTC in tough SENA, where experienced players - Rahane has only 1 50+ score in 12 innings and Kohli has 1 in 6

I have seen your threads and the only common thread among all your threads is to cherry pick stats to somehow make Pujara seem like a tiger when his records suggest a cat.

So? I am trying to lead the blind

You want SENA stats? I got some SENA stats for you too. Let's take the last 2 years of performances to gauge what their recent form in SENA looks like. Pujara, Rahane, Kohli are all pathetic when we use this yardstick.

Your SENA stats in the post above suggest that Pujara is pathetic despite getting to play all Tests and focusing his career only on the long form of the game.

Also, your cherry picked stats suggest that the best batsmen in SENA after Pujara are Dom Sibley, Joe Denly and Shan Masood. Do you really believe that? So if you were to pick a World XI today to play a Test in SENA, would this be your top order?

Sibley

Masood/Denly

Pujara

Surely, World beaters! :giggle:

We are just looking at the recent numbers ... don't burn your house because Pujara is doing well (even in WTC in SENA) :p:

LOL, now you cannot even stand up and back the cherry picked stats that you only posted. What a contradiction! Haha! Why don't you go ahead and claim that Pujara, Sibley, Denly and Masood are the best top order SENA players currently? That is what your stats are suggesting right?

Zen trying his level best to make his case for Pujara. Looks like Pujara is done, as per Kohli.

https://www.timesnownews.com/sports/cricket/article/virat-kohli-hints-at-changes-in-indian-test-team-after-wtc-final-loss-will-bring-in-people-with-right-mindset/775425

The Indian captain also highlighted the importance of having positive intent as a batsman while facing a formidable pace attack like New Zealand in away conditions. He called for the batsmen to be braver in dealing with the quality bowlers and not let the game slip away.

“We definitely need to work out better plans on understanding how to score runs. We have to stay in sync with the momentum of the game and not let the game drift away too much. I don’t think there are any technical difficulties as such,” said Kohli.

I have read the posts, and they do not answer any of my questions. Clearly you don't appear to have any answers to them and your cherry picking of stats to show a biased viewpoint stands exposed.

If you think I am biased, I think you are biased against Pujara too, so that cancels out (it is just that I prefer to focus on post rather than write such things) ... I can't be expected to respond to such childishness comments

Anyways, will write in good faith

You do not have questions but logical fallacies (a typical subcon fan tactic) ... Using logic, you have answered your own question, when you tried to show that Pujara is not doing well (when he is even in WTC in SENA) using stats. By the same token, if someone is doing well, shouldn't he be considered? If not, why are you posting the stats in the first place?  There is no point in trying to undermine players of other countries who have performed well in SENA

Pick whoever you like ... Below is my top 6 of a current 11: Pujara, Conway (wild card), Williamson (career record), Smith, Root and Pant (probably will pick him as the keeper) ... Most of the batsmen are on the stats list among the top. Conway is the new player because I like the way he plays so will give him a shot, while Williamson, an experienced player, gets an opportunity for his career record

Pretty much majority of the posters here are saying that Pujara's performances have been poor of late. Ek tu hi idhar gyani hai, baaki sab andhe hai. I didn't get which part of my post you found childish, but since you did not have any counter argument, it appears that was your defense mechanism.

And why are you picking a top 6 that contradicts the stats that you only posted in this post? According to those, your top 3 should consist of at least 3 out of Denly, Sibley, Masood and Pujara. If you did not have any conviction in the stats that you are presenting, then why post them?

This topic is on SENA, a tough place for Indian batsmen ... It is looking at relatively long term position ... and Pujara has done well there batting in the top order including in WTC SENA ... what you call the "majority" has been writing such thing since years even before 2018 and posting random stuff like you did on this thread

Already answered that including suggesting that you answered it yourself ... there is no contradiction as I never said I would not consider them in SENA over the highlighted top order Ind batsman on the list   ... let's not use logical fallacies :winky:

Well it is not that difficult to understand what I found childish -  "If you think I am biased, I think you are biased against Pujara too, so that cancels out (it is just that I prefer to focus on post rather than write such things) ... I can't be expected to respond to such childishness comment"

Let's use some brains (such things should not be spoon fed) :dontknow:

Three things working in Rahane's favor at this moment:

(1) Captained the team during its most memorable 3-test streak, ever.

(2) The knock at MCG, which started the streak.

(3) The top-score in the first innings of WTC when the team really needed it.  He threw it away and others frittered away the advantage later on, but he did a good job for a while.

Captaincy value n better fitness then pujara works in his favour

The level of hero worshipping by zen for someone who is not even an ATG is hilarious. This kind of hero worship will not take Indian cricket anywhere.

Reminds me of the guy who worshipped Robin Uthappa here to the extent we thought it was Robin himself posting. :cantstop:

Even @zen could be a common friend of Pujara and Pandya.

I don't think Pujara rates himself that high either.  U can tell from his body language. Someone hero worshipping him does not even look funny anymore.

For a fair assessment,we must include WI. Similar conditions and Roach/Gabriel/Holder is a very good attack in these conditions

This is their career record (Start date is debut of earliest of Kohli/Rahane/Pujara's debut)

This is since Jan 2018 (OP's date)

Pujara actually has done better recently owing to two mammoth series in Aus.

But apart from Kohli, all the numbers are decent at best

@skindia was a legend, backed Uthappa to the hilt and gave Dhoni abuse for picking his favourites.

Am concerned if anybody hero worships Pujara. Selfish player who only plays for himself and does not think about the team and match situation.

Would rather eat balls than score runs. Single-handedly trampling on the dying corpse of test cricket.

I support good players esp. test specialists like Pujara, who is among the last breed of test batsman playing classic cricket … And Pujara is an Ind ATG

Good to see him win Ind two back to back series in Aus, something that has not happened before in Ind history
