The season’s best performer, Jorinde van Klinken of the Netherlands, failed to make the final round cut after a modest throw of 61.15m.

So as per seasons results of 2021 K Kaur is No 2 in the finalist list.

Didn't watch the Belgium game, missed 1.5 quarters of Ind-GBR because of Sindhu's match. 

 

Have to check the stats but against GBR, we had (I think)

0 PCs for, 8 or 9 against (most worrying since we had good drag flickers unable to get in the game)

<45% possession

7-8 circle penetrations while GBR's was double

3/6 field goals, 50% conversion of field goals against a top 10 side is a rare occurrence, may not repeat again the rest of the year

Too passive, reliance on deep defence (that's Argentina's method) after 2-0 lead, lack of intent for most of second half 

Sreejesh had a brilliant game, defence was clutch, but they will crack at some point if we continue to be so passive

 

Time permitting I may make a post about the SF (match-ups, what to expect etc.), but signs were not encouraging today.

 

However this Indian team has a well organized defence, mentally tougher, very fit, Indian team of 5 years back would have conceded 3 goals in the final quarter. There were flashes of individual brilliance (even resulting in goal) but just those things don't win you big games, they can complement if you have a good structure, game plan etc. 

 

Belgium will be a much tougher opponent. Most of these European teams are tough and battle-hardened because of regular European competitions. But Bel, Ger, Neth are a cut above this GBR side. 

 

Don't see any reason to be optimistic about our chances, unnecessary expectations and hype must be avoided. Let us look at it objectively, and not get swayed by emotions. We can upset the world champs, but certainly underdogs. 

 

We have already justified our position in world hockey, hope they don't get backlash if they lose the next 2 games. There is potential, young side, proper system in place, and if properly backed we will be in medal hunt for rest of the decade.

 

4th place finish, good.

If we get a bronze, brilliant.

Silver, one of the greatest feats in Indian sports in last 40 years. 

Gold, give them an open top bus parade in the national capital.

goat is simply an abbreviation of greatest of all time. why would world leaders need to use symbols publicly to prove their affiliations when they have secret clubs and secure communication lines. what do they get from leaving these clues to public, are they comic book villains waiting for heroes to capture them.

First thing is Ind-Ger isn't guaranteed, anything can happen. Wasn't impressed by what I saw of Aus today, Ger will have chances. India too has the potential to cause a major upset. Missed the Bel match but ok. 

 

Yes we can beat Germany. Germany is Australia-lite when it comes to playing style but more clutch in big games especially in last 15-20 years. Defend better than Aus but won't ruthlessly search for goals after going 3-0 up. Most efficient side though lack flair, will always do the basics right like simple trapping of the ball or not aimlessly giving up possession in opponent's circle which others may flounder more often...no cheap unforced errors by them. Aggressive man to man marking with forward press, no open space. Intensive, aggressive, won't give much space to our boys (swarm of German shirts) especially when we are in defence. They are different to the Dutch....Dutch allow India to play free flowing hockey, with swift counterattacks, solo dribbling runs, high scoring skillful/creative games with instinctive moves, but not suffocating...our boys were brought up playing like this. I have always believed that 'mechanical' Germany is a bigger challenge for India compared to Netherlands, even when Netherlands has been higher ranked. 

 

55:45 in favor of Ger, I won't put India as fav against the big 4 (Aus, Bel, Ger, Neth) until I see us getting the job done against them in WC/Olympics KO, at least once. They are more battle-hardened, more experienced in these kind of matches having played on such occasions so often. 

 

Good thing is India needn't feel any pressure in the remaining games, underdogs against all the other SFists, so just do your thing and let opponents mentally crumble in games they are expected to win. If we lose, fine we lost to better teams but still had a great tournament. If we win, people will be talking about this many decades later like we do with 1983 WC.

2018 Asian Games, 2018 WC, both times we were robbed. Second one was crazy cheating, in the QF against Netherlands at Kalinga. We have had problems with Aussie umpires for some reason, hope we avoid them in the SF.
