these Number 1 world rankings in shooting that Indians have seem like getting something from the sabzi mandi.. seems like these are meaningless and only serve to hype up the nation in the hope of seeing medals in ONE sport we can try to be the best in the world (In Olympics..). We need to wake up and smell the coffee and not have any expectations from any sportsperson from India. We can be proud that once in a while by tukka we get a medal but this is harsh reality unfortunately

NRAI President has deleted Gracenote prediction of 8 medals from his twitter account :hysterical:

this is what I’m talking about.. chest thumping like a chewtiya when your sporting culture is hopeless when it comes to Olympics.

The baseline expectation should be 0 medals every games.. anything more is a bonus

Nothing comes easily. These athletes earn those rankings by participating in global competitions and winning medals. Why be so nasty?

Each of them have earned their Olympic spots by going through rigorous qualifications rounds and are at Tokyo on merit. Not being able to hold nerves at the biggest stage doesn't take anything away from their hard work of last 4-5 years.

Looks like another blackout edition in shooting....

Had a prediction of 0 to 5 before olympics started.

Doubt we are bettering 2012.

You are part of the historical indian typical mindset--- "its the taking part that counts, not winning' You can continue using the world champs, WCs ( where sometimes a lot of the top world shooters dont come) as success metrics and I will use Olympics.

I Have never said the athletes dont work hard.. all I am saying they will have nothing to show for it. No one remembers a swimmer who may have won continental champs or World champions. People remember Michael Phelps who won 8 Golds at Olympics...

@Gollum

One thing i dont understand is, why such a deviation from performance in shooting in commonwealth games asian games and olympics.

While not the same degree of pressure these performances (apart from Chaudhary who topped qualifying) are abysmal.

There is no crowd at these games. Equivalent to most world championships

'World rankings bought at sabji mandis' was a nice compliment.

I am guessing you do not live in India and have ZERO idea about the ground realities in non-cricketing sports. But carry on with whatever you are saying. I'll continue supporting these athletes, each of whom is a story of fighting against all odds to reach where they have.

A dude from Iran with no real backing won gold. You think many winners in other countries have brilliant odds in life?

Shooting in general in india is well funded.

I do have a a lot of knowledge about the current dire ground realities of other sports in India... what i meant is, lets tone down this padosi esque chest thumping with predictions of 15 medals, 20 medals to put extra pressure on them.. the baseline should be 0 medals. Lets just be grateful Indian athletes are able to participate.

My point is we cant keep using the same excuse as these are W no1s due to winning asian champs  WCs, etc.. if nothing at Olympics then im sorry you cant realistically see yourself as No 1 in the world. India wins many useless bilateral ODIs series.. but the choke in World tournaments. Same concept
