Is Umesh unlucky to play just 1 test in England?

Yes. Umesh would have won us a couple of overseas tests in Eng Sa and Nzl

Umesh Ishant and Shami should have been one of the greatest top3 test bowling line ups of all time but it’s a good problem to have with the emergence of Bumrah. Now I think he is getting a reality check so time for Bumrah to play country cricket. Not Ranji though.

Even though Bhuvi was great in a couple of overseas conditions we have wasted investing in him. It’s like investing 100$ in something and getting $1 return after 20 years. Useless

10 years career and just 1 test in England.

Worse bowlers have played more there.

2011 series - even RP Singh played ahead of him.

One (none?) in SA IIRC, last tour with tailor made pitches for quicks in SA/Eng/NZ he played what 2 games combined? Chumps like Sharmaji have played more :whack3:See the source image

he is lucky that he is still travelling overseas with the team.

Anywhere outside india, any ball apart from SG and he is bang below avg

Pankaj Singh played 2 games.

RP Singh was flown from Miami and got 1 game.

Varun Aaron got 1-2 games.

Probably Umesh could have played 4-5 tests.

Doesnt matter , a lot of time u just have to play someone due to circumstances

  • Pankaj singh played as his 1st games so no one knew how good or bad he ll be, he was a prolific domestic player. And with all the injuries he got his chance
  • RP singh was brilliant in 2007 tour and played on reputation, We have had problem of giving someone a chance on reputation
  • Aaron was bowling well that time

It aint a competition to be fair to all, not possible. He has had his chance overseas n proved to be below avg. Making a case for this is pointless......

How is this even an argument that others sucked so he shud have also gotten a chance to.

Dhoni didnt rate him much , we all have criticised him for that but over the years realised he wasnt entirely wrong. He just doesnt keep up the pressure which can ruin any captains plan. If Ishant, Bumrah have done well in last yr its becoz they keep it damn tight

Gets lovely shape on his outswing so surprising he struggles in SENA

then again hes only really played in Aus only where there is least swing. And hes done better than our bowlers of that period like Aaron and old Ishant

That was 2011 when Miami singh happened. He hadn't even made a test debut. I think was injured then in 2014, was coming back from injury, went to Australia with India A.

His problem has always been being expensive. Even when he did well went for 4 rpo plus. He doesn't stick to a plan, tries too much and sprays

If he had got chances in England, he would have done better than many bowlers who played for India.

A bounce bowler like Prasidh would have been very dangerous on this pitch

i told my coalegues that Prasidh and/or avesh khan would definitely play one or two tests before this series ends. Avesh khan got hurt so that prediction cant become true but i hope Prasidh is played in next test.

with Lambu ISHANt not fit Prasidh should have been played Straight....like to like replacement.

uemsh is trying well but he is not looking that nasty. Shardul has underperformed as a bowler though he has batted aggressively.

He is a decent outswing bowler.  One guy i am surprised to see failing in England was Sreesanth. His bowling is tailor made for English conditions.  Another guy who bowled brilliant outswingers was L Balaji.

sreesanth may had skills, but no discipline.
