Headingley double capitulation was much worse than 36 all out fiasco

At least 36 ao came against a gun Aussie attack, against the pink ball which is still an 'unknown' variable.

Here double capitulation, 78 all out and yesterday's collapse of 63/8 against an average English attack, not half as good as the NZ attack that destroyed us in the WTC F and in NZ. Imagine a fully fit Woakes in place of Curran/Overton, we would have been looking to beat our 36 ao record in first innings

78 all out after winning the toss when all we had to do was see off the first session with minimum damage.

63/8 yesterday when pitch was at its flattest and no trace of cloud anywhere, new ball ok but after 80 overs the previous day Eng attack wasn't as fresh. Not the first time we have collapsed in sunny conditions this summer.

Surely heads must roll now. At least a couple of changes in the batting unit. TM always so eager to rest/drop/bench bowlers, apply 'horses for courses' policy to bowlers when it is these same bowlers who have carried the team for the last 5 years both home and overseas.

Again there are talks of making changes in bowling combo for Oval test, no discussion about batting changes. Someone like Rahane who is averaging 33 in his last 48 tests, despite batting at such an easy position, worst ever in Indian conditions, 1 useful overseas knock in last 6 years....still our VC and set to play 100 tests.

Sure we can make a couple of changes in bowling unit, rest some fast bowlers to get them fresh for Manchester test....but need big changes in batting department. Shaw, SKY, Vihari, Mayank won't do worse than these MO bozos.

don't expect any batting changes at all. if I had my way, I'd play all four of the above batsmen and have KL keep. Shaw, Rohit, Vihari, Mayank, KL (wk), SKY, Ashwin, Jaddu, Thakur, Bumrah, Shami/Siraj may be the way to go if Oval is flat with a bit of spin. that way, we have batting till 9 and 5 bowling options + 2 part-timers in vihari + SKY

English attack is not far behind it in terms of effectiveness.

Robinson is top notch who bowls with Asif esq wobbly seam and Anderson is still as brilliant as he used to be.

Pitch wasn't flat. Anderson was bowling leg breaks. Don't know which match you were watching.

Leg breaks only on day 1 and that too at 135k not like steyn's leg break at 145k .in the second innings I didn't find any of his spells as dangerous as the day 1 spell .

Why don't the other teams capitulate against Anderson like we do regularly ,sure there might be one or two capitulations but I have never seen other teams regularly getting owned by andu.

The major reason is our batsmen are very limited ,their stroke selction is very limited ,can't play the cut shot ,can't play late, even after playing 12-13 matches in England our batters average 26,28,27,34 ,25 which is shameful tbh .

There is no way you can defend our batting frailties in England after touring 3 times ,no justification mate !

Sadly this question doesnt have a proper answer and the answers soon may become questions as well

In reality our backup are weak. May be one of them may even score in next game since oval is good to bat as compare to other surface but sooner or later they ll be found out really bad and we might go back to our original problem.  Mayank n Shaw were dropped coz they were struggling and sky wasnt even considered for red ball in any A tour

I wont be surprised if ull see a thread that says Pujara n Rahane were better then these in coming times.

This is a mediocre batting line-up. 78 comea few tests after that 36 runs innings. Batsmen averaging 35 are being selected. The others who averaged 50 are averaging 35 due to decline. Expect more such below 100 scores from these below par and declining batsmen. 78 will look better in comparison some other test few months down the line.

Need Rahul at 5. 4-5-6 are key batting positions in test cricket. They get mostly the easier conditions to bat. Rahane has been pathetic. Need a sixth batsman too. Play with four bowlers.

I have been saying this ever since Pandya started playing tests.

Indian team has weak batting line up for long time now and the batsmen who can actually take advantage of situation aren't fit to make it big - Rahane and Pandya.

Top 3 will remain doubtful in Eng/SA conditions, need players who are capable of scoring against tiring bowlers and soft old ball.

This was not a 78 all out wicket. ONly reason we got there because openers didn't score. If KL Rahul didn't show up in the second test we might have don the same in the second test itself.

Anderson is averaging in early 20s in England, that can't happen just by taking wickets against India.

He averages 34 against Australia in Home Ashes
