4th innings target of 250 will be enough

There is enough variable bounce in this wicket to make sure final innings target of 250 will be very difficult especially with 4 seamers and Jadeja to control the runflow from one end. Question is - will we reach there?

 

1. Restrict England to 250 in their 1st innings.

2. Score 300 (lesser England's 1st innings score, lesser to score in our 2nd innings)

 

Point 1 is doable (getting Root out overnight is huuuuge).

 

Point 2 will be very very difficult. Openers, Kohli and Pant will need to pull up something special. Will it be too much to ask for some divine intervention from our Lord the second time around?

 

This test match will go down to the wire. 5th test is expected to be draw due to bad weather, so everything to play for. These are the times that potential heroes put their hands up.

Still a long way to go. A lot of things have to go our way. 

 

England lower order will hang around and surely give them a healthy lead of at least 60-70 and even if we play "very well", we won't cross 250 in the second innings.

Even lord can't save us everytime. England will reduce us to 60-5 in no time before their lead gets wiped out. This Indian team deserves to lose. So many passengers and reluctant to learn.

If I were Kohli I'd promote Shardul to no 3 spot..  To counter punch in 2nd inns.  Especially if openers have negotiated at least 10 overs. 

Pujara is waste of space right now.

How will we get lead of 250 unless our bowlers bowl them out in first inning atleast under 100. Even then , I am not sure with our legendary batting lineup led by ATG Skipper.

I think England maintain and shine the Dukes ball much better. All the players keep working on the ball. I see less of those efforts by Kohli and team. Root and Jimmy are constantly working on shining the ball.

Before this tour, Kohli said they have to win the key moments. This now is arguably the biggest moment in this series assuming last test will be rain-affected draw. Also, if India forced England to bowl another 30-40 odd overs, Anderson and Robinson workload may just topple over to the region where they will need to be rested or can't bowl well in the last test.

 

Everything to play for. 250 target setting is ON. Here we go.

Just a gut feeling but I think Kohli, Jadeja and Pant will fight it out this innings. Flat pitch, not much swing. Probably the best conditions you could ask for in England. Fingers crossed.

I am doubtful, but let's see. neither kohli nor pant inspire much confidence this tour.

100 runs will be quite tough because there will be cloud cover in the morning and the ball is still quite new. Batting was a bit tricky on 3rd day morning as well but India had both openers at the crease and they were able to see the new ball off and later it became easier for batting. But on 4th day, we will have Jadeja at the crease who doesnt inspire much confidence against the new ball and Rahane and Pant to come who have been struggling. 

 

I think India will get another 50 runs at the most unless some slogging from Thakur or Umesh gets us another 30 runs but this is not going to happen everytime.
