Don't know about the official reason but the point is to hurt Pakistan financially by denying them access to Indian market. PCB themselves have reported 'loses' (rather missed opportunities to earn) worth hundred of millions of dollars cause of India not touring them.

Will it stop Pakistan from indulging in anti-India activities? Probably not. But sane voices in Pakistan will realise that enmity with India comes at a big financial cost. How long can they cope with these loses is up to them.

The problem is they are like leeches, they first were leeching USA for funds and acting high and mighty against us.Now they have a new master in China .So majority of them are still against India especially their army whose meal ticket has been anti India sentiment for last 70 years.

They are not only leeches, they are a disgraceful hypocrites.

China treats Muslims like 3rd rate citizens, recently they asked Apple to remove the Quran app for China users. These app is used by millions of Muslims across the world.  Shamelessly they don’t utter a single word against how their master China treats Muslims and Islam.  @Aiden

Things will change within a generation. Just watch.

They can't keep up with our economy for long. They have to spend a lot more %wise on defense, intelligence, lobbying, etc due to their enmity with us. Their currency has already started to crash (100-170 in just 2 years!).

If this keeps going, they will end up like North Korea soon, broke and a colony of China.

Continued terror attacks, refusal by Pakistani 'government' to follow through on UN-designated terrorists, refusal by Pak 'government' to prosecute the known perpetrators of the Bombay 2008 attacks - its a long, but obvious list.  Improvement in bilateral government relationship is repeatedly and directly linked to these issues.

And improvement in government relationship will quickly and automatically result in changes in the cricket policy.  Its a very clear and obvious stick fashioned out of carrots.  One of the few things done right by the Indian government when it comes to exercising leverage against Pakistan.

Indian govt could do a lot more - if MNCs that do business in India are required to 'document' that Indian revenues are not going to any entity with presence in Pakistan, companies like Pepsi, Honda, Toyota etc would very quickly make the obvious choice as to which market they want to stay in.  Such a draconian move would also act as a disincentive for investment, so I understand why it hasn't been done yet, but its eminently feasible.

Cannot compare North Korea to Pakistan at all as "similar" the case might seem viz. relationship with China.

North Korea is run by a dictator family and is a homogenous society.

Pak is run by the military -which itself has many factions- some extremely radicalized, some very moderate.  On top of that Pak is a religious society with huge ethnic divides, but where Punjabi Sunnis dominate.

There is just no comparison.

Pak is past master in shutting off / on the terror tap. The day the Sunni Punjabi ego cannot tolerate how Chinese treat muslims in general and Pak in particular,  the no. of suicide attacks sponsored by the Pak deep state on Chinese working in Pak would shoot up and Chinese would flee. Pak has played this game in Afghanistan against 2 superpowers. China has a near zero chance of stomaching these planned hits if Pak decides too.  So Pak will never be a colony of China.

Pak has a way greater chance of disintegrating and thats would we should be aiding and abetting.

The second largest and influential ethnicity after Punjabis in the Pak army is the Pashtun ( Pathan ) ethnicity that is hugely sympathetic to Afghans.

They have a far greater allegiance to Pashtun statehood than Pak.

If the fissures in the Pak army on ethnic lines ( Pashtuns vs. Punjabis ) grows wide enough and there is some amount of collusion with Aghanistan, Pak could disintegrate because it is the army which has held Pak together.

I for one will be happy if they are colony of China. Chinese won't tolerate any qtiyapa and will put a leash on them. Ofcourse our legs will be pulled on both the borders but I will be ok to manage that rather than having  a lawless state like Syria or Afghanistan next to us. While Pakistan have efficiently blackmailed the world for 70 yrs by holding a gun against its own head, if it actually triggers which is what it looks like to happen in another 10 years, we and Iran will be suffering the most after their own citizens because all nut heads in that country will kill each other and send some crackers at our end as well.

is that rationale written down anywhere i.e a government website?

so the official reason is not security, as in the security of players and spectators cannot be guaranteed at Indian Pakistan fixtures given the hostilities. a related reason but a very different one. i'm sure that has been the stance on at least one previous occasion many years ago but i could be completely wrong

When the PCB decided to waste its money suing the BCCI over "breach" of MoU, Indian govt sent a cabinet minister to testify in court.  They stated that Ind-Pak bilateral cricket have always required 'government permission' due to historical sensitivities.  You can look up the testimony online probably.

Separately, the government has repeatedly linked relaxation of strict permissions for so-called 'people to people' contacts and interactions, directly to Pakistani non-compliance on terrorism issues listed by India.

If you are looking for a nice 2 line statement officially linking terrorism to cricket, I doubt you will find it easily though.  MFA has been asked question regarding relaxation of restrictions on civilian travel, sports including cricket, often in press conferences, and has repeated its standard mantra of Pakistan needing to do its part like any 'civilized' country, before this can happen.  You might find a press conference transcript somewhere.

They have been going on leeching for last 70 years. They have been going backwards since 1947.I don't see any change in this idiot Imran Khan's govt stance either.Pakistan used to be more secular in 1950s and 60s than it is today.

I am on the fence on this one. Part of me does not want to play and other part does. So the solution is to start cross border firing and play the game. Then beat them in both. I am very sure Army has not lost a game since 1948  but cricket team has not performed that well.

If you indeed care about our soldiers and their families and did something truly meaningful to help them, you would be talking about it with pride, not seeing it as something that needs to be "proven". But it's pretty obvious you have done nothing for them which is why you keep avoiding the subject in every comment.

Like I said, fake patriotism. You don't care about our soldiers.

AAP asks for India-Pak match to be called off

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Tuesday called for India’s opening T20 World Cup fixture against Pakistan to be cancelled in light of the recent killing of civilians by terrorists in Kashmir.

I would not want this match to be boycotted as it will halt India's progress in the tournament.

But our media should stop glorifying this match every time. On one hand channels like Republic TV is asking to Boycott the match and on the other hand Aaj Tak/ India Today group is doing Salaam Cricket show in Dubai inviting ex Indian and Pak cricketers.

We are a weird society and there is no middle ground.
