I remember many years ago there was a thread cheering for a Sreeshanth comeback after the disastrous England series in 2011.

 

10 years since and Sreeshanth has not made it back  

 

I see Pandya going in a similar direction. More content and threads on ICF than any actual output.

 

He might have a Irfan Pathan, DK, Parthiv Patel or even Yuvraj/Raina (later years) type multiple off and on runs before he calls it a day.
 

 Each comeback  with diminishing returns just like most of those guys bar DK with that one off Nidihaas

That will stay legendary. Generated a lot of youtube income for SLC board with those 2 over blitz.  One more thing about Pandya is he looks so weak these days. Too fragile.  Possible carpel tunnel syndrome. He is not exactly "master of his domain" .

Sometimes you take a flyer on a guy, and it just might pay off. If you look at this Australian side, note how they stuck by guys like Wade or Marsh. Long down times. Paid off this World Cup. Heck, even Warner went thru a big slump, injuries etc. Australia still went with the guy. Again, paid off this World Cup. Maybe Pandya could eventually turn out to be THAT guy. He was brought up the ranks he even though he wasn’t fully cooked and on top of that he is injury prone. But obviously people see something. Heck I was hopeful when he was doing so well in the ipl in 2020. But then, so many of those Mumbai Indians- Suryakumar, Ishan were hot in 2020- but out of it in both ipl and World Cup in 2021. Maybe next time..

I am not sure about his first class credentials. He was picked from syed mustaq. He was okay. Nothing earth shattering. striking at 102.  At one point  Yusuf Pathan, Irfan Pathan, Hooda, Pandya all played for the same side. Hooda developed some sort of reputation as a young player. But Pandya sneaked ahead. This is from 2015/16

Yep, a long term focus pays off (Aus finally won its first WC with players that they backed since a long time). A team has so many slots in its 11. SDP, a rare high SR batsman and guy who can win you tournaments (MoS v Aus recently and where the next world cup is ... won MI many IPLs) takes only 1 slot so there is no reason to not back him (For e.g. Yuvi debuted in 2000, clicked in 2007 and 2011). There are 5-6 other batting slots where there are similar type of batsmen, who can be rotated.

issue is not Pandu's abilities - those can be debated ad infinitum, but with his rapidly deteriorating fitness. I expect that he will no longer bowl more than 1-2 overs in white overs. moreover, the injury and his new stance have destroyed his hitting arc. on form and fitness, he should go back to domestics, revamp his game and try to come back as specialist batter.

He never had to slog through domestic cricket unlike many guys. I am not sure if he ever played first class cricket. He was too lucky that he got picked by MI. ANy other franchise wait time would have been longer.  Immediately drafted into the INdian side. Even got picked for Tests with no real first class credentials. He had some value when he was able to bowl. His batting could be considered a bonus. With him not bowling and losing ability to strike well he is  a liability. He is taking up the spot of players who slog through domestic cricket.

I agree with you. He was not the guy who scored big in first class and was promoted upward. In this case, the team took a flyer based on raw ability, and hoping he develops along the way. All I am saying is that sometimes that pays off. Especially a guy who can bowl at 140 kmph and hit gigantic sixes with the bat.  Otherwise you could forget about the selectors’ panel and just pick people with the best first class averages ( batting or bowling) and complete the slots. But there is a gap between first class and international cricket. So, there might be people who score 100s for fun in the domestic level but can’t manage at the international level. That is where the selectors earn the big bucks. They need to be able to project likelihood of success at the top tier.

First of all, good to see such posts. 
 

Let's not forget that he averages 60+ in tests in Asia (has a 100 and 2 50s), so that is already better than any FC #s (subcon conditions). Batting mostly in the lower middle order, he has 5 70+ scores in ODIs. Recently was MoS in T20s in Aus and has tons of good performances in IPL, which again showcase his batting talents. 

 

PS It is as if a film has won an Oscar but someone is questioning it for not winning a Star-Zee-whatever award

Read too many infantile posts today (Feels like time wasted. Forums has gone to the dogs. Could have watched Apocalypse Now, whose 4K UHD is still unopened). Because of the T20WC, I was reading many posts on Cricket Talk but need to start skimming this forum again and mainly read posts of good posters and where I am quoted/tagged.

The difference is the guys you mentioned had a reasonable history of performance either in domestic cricket or Intl cricket and more importantly they have huge drive and hunger to succeed and IT SHOWS. I mean Warner is a STALWART with a HUGE history of performance.  None of this is applicable to HP, who even his franchise has had enough of, even though he is still young. He is a bad influence to any team ( even franchise ) that has youngsters trying to make their mark for India.  
 

Except for one spammer troll and his extremely irritating & juvenile understanding of stats and the game and non stop spamming with “SDP” posts - NO ONE - I mean no one wants to see HP in the side. And these are some of the most experienced watchers of the game  of cricket

well worth rewatching Apocalypse Now. One of the ATG anti-war movies, albeit more subtle than other ATG anti-war movies (e.g., All Quiet on the Western Front 1930).

Yeah, I watched it a some time ago but on streaming (hopefully I would have forgotten most of it apart from some obvious memorable scenes). The picture quality is supposed to be good on the 4K UHD for a 1970s film!

You are in for a treat. I have seen it in 1440p and it was already mind boggling. The 4K should add more texture and highlighting to the gorgeous cinematography, editing, and direction.
