Take Pandya & his watches, Rahul, Buby and Jadeja too along with them.

Yes, Warner & Smith.

 

One is one of the best LOI players (performed in both SF and F for the recent T20 WC). And a Sehwagesque test player.

 

The other is among the top 5-10 GOAT test batsmen and a clutch LOI batsman.

 

What is there to think?

Rohit for Warner is a bad deal.  Although one can argue that given India's batting resources, Warner's more unselfish batting style would improve the team's win/loss results more.

 

Smith for Kohli.....

No.

 

Smith-Warner couldn't win a single Ashes in England or a test series in India. Rohit-Kohli won a series in Aus, in England* and should win one in SA this time.

 

Caveat: Kohli the batsman and not Kohli the captain

Not Rohit but definitely Kohli. Kohli fangirls can claim whatever they want but this guy is easily dispensable.

Kohli is the ICC cricketer of the decade, so won't exchange him for anyone in the world in the last 10 years. 

 

Rohit Sharma hasn't done much in tests and is already 35, so yes will exchange him for Warner. 

 

Smith is a 2 kaudi ka t20 player and a run of the mill odi batsman, but obviously a better batsman than even Tendulkar.

 

All formats combined:

1.Kohli(Goat in two formats atg in one) 

2.Smith(Goat in tests, fraud in t20, good in odis) 

3.Warner (Good in test, Great in t20, great in odis) 

4.Sharma (Mediocre in test, Overrated af in t20, Odi Legend)

Actually if you go by history, Kohli's impact on Indian cricket is wayyyyy more than Rohit.

 

1. Take out Kohli and there was probably no WC 2011. No CT 2013 either. Yes those were not the main standout knocks but take them out and we would have most likely lost. WC 2011 was a slippery slope.

 

2. Probably no test domination either. Today 5 bowlers is an accepted norm but I remember in 2014 how it was a very new concept. Kohli's attitude to win at all costs helped the test team big time. 

 

3. We should have won World T20 2014 if not for Yuvi. All Kohli show. Even 2016 World T20, we could have won if we didn't have our heads up our asses. Again Kohli show.

 

Yes, he later turned toxic and harmed the team a lot.

 

It was there but putting things in perspective.

Rohit is a case of what COULD have been had he become the captain (LOI).

 

Late bloomer.

 

But if you see their impact as of now, Kohli towers over Rohit.

 

It might change in the next 4-5 years.

As players, I would pick Smith & Warner over Kohli and Rohit.

 

But for the impact on the team and India's future, I think the safer and reliable option is Kohli and Rohit.

 

If Rohit transforms the LOI team, then this decision will be a no brainer.

Also Kohli changed the fortunes of our test team, from being no. 6  when he arrived to winning 4 test maces. 

 

Also the pioneer of fast bowling culture in India. A contribution which will be always remembered.

Players … Rahane as a leader is a myth (With Kohli gone, a bunch of players stood up to provide leadership support. Rahane is a face of that group). We have seen him being lacklustre at RR.
