It is better to clean the city. Go green. Delhi has been the centre of the country from 1000s of years.

Yeah, that's why it's better to move out. Delhi is already big city.

First move capital from Delhi and then plan to clean it. Right now city keeps on getting load due to it being one of the biggest cities as we as being capital.

Need to build a new center.

You have valid point. Too many ministries etc. In the city make it difficult to live.

Additionally, the politicians won't be keen to move to a new area. Outside of the winter air quality, they must prefer the luxury of a first world life in Lutyens. Couple that with the VIP culture with or without laal batti, they are cocooned from the problems of the masses & hence not going anywhere.

Heavily polluted city which has too much load.

Will it be better to move capital to a new city? A planned city with 50 years expansion also in mind?

Bass ackwards logic on display.

First you acknowledge that its a big problem with the city and it needs to be cleaned up.  Then you claim to "solve" the problem by just moving the capital.

Is it the parliament members farts that is the problem? What exactly are you "solving" by moving the capital?

If you move the capital away, will that stop the industrial pollution, the overcrowding, the stubble burning?

All it will do, is help those corrupt bastards avoid the problem, and that is in all likelihood will make it easy for them to ignore the problem instead of solving it.

A good topic!

First, let me give a few examples of purpose built capital cities:

  • Nigeria: Lagos -> Abuja
  • Turkey: Istanbul -> Ankara
  • Brazil: Rio de Janeiro -> Brasília
  • Australia: Canberra
  • British India: Calcutta -> New Delhi (near the old city of Delhi)

Some of the countries that are planning or in the process of moving to a new capital:

  • Indonesia: Jakarta -> a new capital proposed to be built
  • South Korea: Seoul -> Sejong
  • Egypt: Cairo -> a proposed new administrative capital

For India, to move to a new capital, its vision should be clear:

  • To promote and send a message to all Indians about creating a clean and green culture
  • To showcase India's ancient roots and its culture
  • To have a model town that gives a glimpse of how cities should be in the future

Based on the above:

  • A town that combines ancient Indian architecture (not emotionless Eastern blockesque structures) with modern sustainable facilities
  • A town designed for people (not cars)
  • A town that aims to diminish boundaries between various economic classes

For some inspiration/ideas:

For India, an emotional and culturally relevant capital would be Dwarka as it is said to be founded by Lord Krishna and served as the capital of his kingdom.

Pros:

  • Provides an emotional connection to most Indians
  • Small town so its development can be managed well
  • On the Arabian Sea so infrastructure projects like a small airport can be placed on the sea

Cons:

  • Threat from rising water levels (but having a capital there gives such environmental issues more traction)

Well what I am suggesting is to break problems into two parts. Fix Delhi separately as a big non-capital city and build a capital city which serves purpose of legistative and admin center.

None of which does anything remotely meaningful to address the pollution issues.

it would only serve to protect politicians and bureaucrats from dealing with the dirty results of their own policy failures. Essentially a PR exercise to have a cleaner capital, that will eventually get dirty again, since the policies are not fixed.

total waste of resources. and a chance for commonwealth games style corruption on a larger scale.

I like this idea, move it to Chandigarh, India's only planned city and it's beautiful.

India has two more planned cities. One is Gandhinagar, the other, Naya Raipur(Vayjapee nagar), is a work in progress.

Chandigarh is the ideal location for a new capital, beautifully planned and designed, Melbourne reminds me a little bit of Chandigarh.

Has a great environment, would be the ideal capital for India.

Chandigarh is already serving as administrative capital of two states.
